A day to remember the threats from space

The United Nations General Assembly chose this date in memory of the Tunguska event in Siberia that occurred on June 30, 1908.

This date is intended to raise public awareness of the danger of asteroid impact and to inform crisis communication measures that would be taken around the world if there was a credible threat of an NEO impact.

The idea of celebrating this date is the result of a proposal from the Association of Space Explorers that was approved by the "Commission on the Use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes", this body of the United Nations National Organization - this body created in 1959 it is the one that regulates the exploration and exploitation of outer space and is or should be the highest governing body or the highest authority in future colonies on the moon or mars.

Among others, this body has produced the agreement on liability for damage caused by space objects, something very topical due to the increase in space debris, and this body has also produced the agreement on the moon, which directs the activities of the states on the moon and other celestial bodies, from which came an agreement prohibiting the threat or use of force or any other hostile act on the moon.

The intention is to convert the moon or mars or any other space outside the earth into a space of peace where you can explore, investigate, do science and also do business with space mining or industry in a peaceful way, this is in theory.

Who knows if this peaceful agreement is going to be respected in the future or that the tensions to distribute the lunar resources will end up creating conflicts between nations and companies, that is one of the great doubts that there is right now, but at the moment there is that legislation and there is that spirit of exploring and traveling to space for peaceful purposes, for the benefit of all humanity as the plaque that was placed on the moon said.

I imagine the companies focused on asteroid mining, right now they are small companies with initial projects, these will have a similarity to the first companies that were building the first planes or the first cars at the end or beginning of the late 19th century, these companies can take off at any time as soon as spacecraft capable of traveling to asteroids are available and resources that are really profitable are found there, because at the moment the problem is that traveling to space is extremely expensive.
