The collision of two superlative black holes

It is incredible how much progress we have made in understanding these monsters in the cosmos, because the term is actually quite modern, it emerged in 1969, thanks to John Wheeler at a meeting of cosmologists in New York and we have to thank John, because before black holes had the very descriptive but cumbersome and complicated name of a star in complete gravitational collapse.

Until not long ago they were only theoretical objects, but in recent years we have discovered their enormous importance in the cosmos, we know that the largest ones are found in the heart of the Galaxies, in almost all of them, we have taken images of them and we are understanding The strangers phenomena that occur in their environment.

They are the frontier of the universe we know, further inside there is a completely unknown universe, astronomers have found several supermassive black holes orbiting very close, they are giants that will end up merging creating an even larger black hole, releasing in their collision an enormous amount of energy and shaking the entire fabric of space-time.

The distance between those pairs is usually hundreds of light-years, and the merger will occur within tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of years, but a team of researchers led by Ning Jiang of the University of Science and Technology of China and in which Canadian scientists have also participated and have located a very special pair of black holes, because they are very close to each other, as close as the distance that separates the Sun from Pluto.

They turn rapidly in a spiral fall towards an Inevitable collision event and the extraordinary thing about the finding is that this event is not something that will happen in hundreds of thousands of years, in fact, scientists do not speak of years but of days, their calculations are that the impact will occur in at most a thousand days, or rather, that we will feel the impact in that period of days because the collision has already taken place.

The two dark giants are located in the galaxy SDSS J1430+2303 located about 1,110 million light years away in the direction of the Boötes constellation, we do not see the universe in real time but when its effects reach us, we see the moon with a little more than a second apart and if the sun disappeared instantly we would still see it light and bright in the sky for 8 minutes and 20 seconds.

These black holes have already merged a long time ago, we are capturing something that happened more than a billion years ago, they are super colossal black holes, since their combined mass is equivalent to 200 million suns, it is something enormous.

So that we have an image of how colossal it is to imagine that the sun were a one euro coin, in proportion then the supermassive black hole that is in the center of our galaxy, the milky way, would be an M4 Sherman tank of about 30 tons , and these two news black holes that are going to merge would be in comparison somewhat larger than Nazi Germany's Dora or gustav cannon, almost 1500 tons with all its equipment and weapons

Here on earth when we feel their collision, many things will happen, but surely it will not endanger the universe as some headlines say, because no scientist affirms that, do not be afraid of the collision of these two giants, it does not pose any risk to our planet, they are too far away.
