Sometimes we live as a result of solving the smaller problems to prevent the bigger problems; being proactive most of the time saves cost, it helps us estimate the risk ahead, and before it results into a full-blown problem, we take preventive measures because this is often better than damage control.
I live in a society where people are not fazed by red flags and symptoms, they'll rather have a problem rather than think they'll have a problem, this means they're but prepared hand-on to put preventive measures in place for something they're not certain of. Truth is that, almost everyone is ignorant of the first time an issue suffices. When you look at the world you'll see that the consequences people face when they face things they haven't seen before are always gregarious.
Take a look at how Covid-19 shook the world, it means people were never prepared for such a virus that slickly mutates and spreads with ease. Now, has the human race ever seen a different virus? Of course yes. Ebola for example.
But then it was tackled. What I am trying to say is that generally we're equipped to solve real-time problems and even the most difficult one's for that matter, but as we advance the issues we are susceptible to resolve takes on new form and becomes even more difficult. For example, in the past human finally solved the problem of flying, but nowadays, its more challenging to have 100% safety when flying because of anomalies that might not yet be fathomed.

In reality, we're more capable than we actually realize and that is why being pushed to the wall, facing extinction, makes survival Instincts kick in. This is to say that we're able to calculate, read meaning, patterns and permutations, following a sequence to predict what might come next.
For example, food keeps man alive and going, subconsciously we have come to tackle problems that are facing agriculture and survival and we continuously do so, this is to say that our problems mutates, while we might not need food all the time, medicine is something else that ensure survival and while we have basic medical issues, we have even come as far as understanding health complications, nevertheless the fact that they are some illnesses that can not be treated means that the challenge isn't over.
This means that no matter how much we have achieved, challenging and problems are continuously, because they're variables that we can never tackle at a go. A lot of people feel they've solved all their problems by being wealthy, what of unforeseen circumstances that might take away that wealth? This is why scarcity is never a phenomenon with the human existence.
While we're moving, advancing and becoming better, so does our challenges continues to take different form. We're in the age of technology, but then some of our technological advancements are our nemesis. Some advancements have posed great danger to people and this means from solving a problem, we have created another challenge on its own which means we're now faced with a question from answer an initial question.

What this means is that our world is complex, our problems are adapting as we try to solve them, and this is why we must always be pragmatic. All around us are challenges and problems that are dormant and waiting to be activated.
This means that damage control can be more dangerous and overwhelming and this is why at all times we should try to not just expect "things" to happen but to be prepared for when they'll eventually happen, being prepared for the unknown is not easy, but then we learn a lot from seeing needs that aren't really visible for us to see because these are the ones that carries potential impacts the most.
