Power; The Dominion
Mere hearing the word "power" a lot of people might quickly associate it with governance, this would be understandable. When you look at the world currently, it has changed and this might do with how the concept of power has evolved overtime. Power of course is the free will to enact without the fear of consequences. In any interpretation you'll have of power, somehow, this definition reverberating inside of it. Humans are expressive of dominion, by default; a type of freedom which can often be interpreted as a power to showcase influence over something expressing dominion itself is a manifestation of power. One's ability to control their immediate surrounding and bending it to their wills is power and here's is an example of expressiveness that we often underestimate.
The Power Of Expression...
If you look at the 20th century or maybe centuries back. This is was probably limited. A lot of people envisage the power of expression to quite a minimal level, but the truth is nowadays people can express themselves way beyond their reckoning. Back in the days being black or being gay or being a woman brings a sort of limitation to how a person can express themselves, this is because of how unilateral a lot of human ideologies were back then. For example being black living in a foreign or white country can limit how wealthy you're supposed to be, so also this created a sort of inferiority. Being able to express difference wasn't really embraced, people were expected to tow a line without breaking a chain and trying to do this can be detrimental.

Back in Nigeria there wasn't what you'll call universal suffrage, voting was limited to men and this means a woman can hardly express herself politically even it she had brilliant ideologies that could change the world. The truth is, the power of expression is important for human development inasmuch as the "over-expressiveness" can be somewhat unbecoming. Nevertheless humans aren't meant to be refrained, secluded or unilateral in their ability to express.
The Human Mind...
The human mind is the definition of power, this means we're not limited in thoughts, actions, decisions, the ability to discern and the power to create awesome innovations, this is power in itself, when we make a comparison to other species, we're miles different, this is while we often have a sense of dominion, we can manipulate our environment to suit our needs and cravings.
Psychological Speaking...
Look around; the earth, the forest, the ability to mine mineral resources, how we have found food in the seas, build houses and skyscrapers without seeking the authority of an external power or having to conform to a sort of control beyond our capacity. Physically we're the definition of expression and the will and the ability to enact change, bend our world or tweak it to our advantage is the definition of true power which sometimes we even fail to realise.

In Other Words... Power & Legitimacy
People are freer nowadays to somewhat be expressive and this is power. Sometimes we have the capacity to decide our lives, the way we want to look (to an extent), the way we want to talk or dress. The ability to fail or succeed can sometimes be dependent on us. We're key characters in how our lives eventually turns out. When we talk about power, it deals with many narratives, firstly while we're not the initiators in our lives, we're the architects.
In recent times we've sophisticated the meaning of power as the ability to give freedom. When we look at our political systems we see democracy rather than feudalism or maybe totalitarianism and communism. This means we humans have come to understand that true power comes from acceptance. The sovereignty that's gotten rather than taken. Authority lies with legitimate power and I recent times we have come to understand that power can only be respected and not abused by a person who wields it when it's legally given.
