I don’t mind small and simple accommodations when traveling, but honestly, I prefer clean and safe ones. They don’t have to be fancy digs, but I won’t complain if they are. Sometimes, you have no choice and need to stay in the most convenient place you can (and are willing to) afford. Beyond safety, cleanliness, and luxury, I also like to assess the hotel by its design.
I stayed at a Marriot hotel near Pearson International Airport in Toronto this past summer. I didn’t know what to expect. There is a shuttle that picks visitors up at the airport then drives them to no-man’s land on the outskirts of Toronto to spend the night in this area.

The sun was already going down upon arrival. Its colors were vivid, probably because of the smoke that had been making its way across the country that summer.

A nice pair of lights with sunset to match
The entrance to the hotel feels grand. Indeed, one can see how the wings extend in either direction. Later, I would find out that it was part of a bigger complex that included restaurants and shops. Perfect for winter weather, which gets frigid around these parts.
Opening the door to the room with the phone was a hoot, as they say down yonder. It took some doing, and it would’ve been faster to get the card, but I was determined to make it work. Once it was all set up, all I needed to do was bring up the app and open sesame.

Upon first entering, one is greeted with a large television that welcomes you with a ‘Good evening, guest name’ screen. Intrusive but nice.

Some coffee. Tea. Bottled water. Cream. Sugar. Not bad. The carpet had probably seen better days. Sturdy professional chair with mesh back
You can pair your phone with this tv for streaming, but try as I might, it just wouldn’t do it with mine. C’est la vie, as they say in Quebec.

Nice clean bed. Some stationery. Trash bin. Phone. Alarm clock. Stylish lights, and check out the art. Calm muted colors. Not distracting at all. I did come here to sleep not to assess art, after all.

The view was of a parking lot, but in all honesty, there wasn’t much to look at in this part of the city. The small table was a nice touch along with the comfortable clean chair to sit back and ponder. I like to ponder a lot.

Ooo, FREE STUFF! Okay, not really free because you pay for it, but it’s still nice to see it.
- Vanity kit
- Shoe buffing kit

- Oral hygiene kit
- Scope mouthwash
- Ear plugs!

Just got here and already made a mess. Rock N Roll! 😈
I like this modern style of lighting. Easy on the eyes and brings out your sexy mesmerizing stare.
Oh yes, another thing that I also like to take into account: peace and quiet. Unfortunately, this hotel is right on the path of the airplanes. So throughout the night, I could hear the roaring jet engines right above me. I must’ve fallen asleep at some point, but it was a long long night. What about the earplugs? I forgot I had them until I was drafting this post and saw them on the photograph. 🙃
