Good afternoon dear friends, may God bless you greatly, today I share with you an exhortation from King Solomon, traditionally considered the author of the book of Proverbs, to his son and, by extension, to all readers, about the supreme importance of wisdom and intelligence in life.
The passage says like this:

Acquire wisdom, acquire intelligence; Do not forget or depart from the reasons of my mouth; Do not leave her, and she will keep you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom above all; acquire wisdom; And over all your possessions acquire intelligence. Magnify her, and she will magnify you; She will honor you, when you have embraced her.

Proverbs 4:5-8

In the biblical context, wisdom is not just knowledge, but a deep understanding of life based on the fear of God and the observance of his commandments. Intelligence, on the other hand, refers to the ability to apply that wisdom in decision-making and daily life.
Solomon warns his son that he must not forget or depart from the teachings he has received. The "mouth" refers to direct and personal teaching, underscoring the importance of remembering and adhering to wise instruction. It is a call to memory and perseverance in keeping the teachings alive and applicable in life.
Solomon personifies wisdom, suggesting that if her son remains faithful to her, wisdom will act as a guardian, protecting him from dangers and errors. "Loving her" implies a deep, emotional commitment, highlighting the idea that wisdom is not just something to respect or follow, but to intensely value and desire. By loving her, one receives protection and preservation in life in return.
Wisdom is presented as the most precious asset, superior even to material possessions. It is emphasized that, in life, one must prioritize the acquisition of wisdom and intelligence, as these are the foundations on which a full and meaningful life can be built.
Solomon continues with the personification of wisdom, indicating that by magnifying it (that is, by considering it as something of great value and putting it first), wisdom in turn will magnify its possessor. This suggests a reciprocal relationship: by exalting wisdom, one gains honor, recognition, and a successful life. "Embracing" wisdom implies a total and loving commitment to it, which carries a reward of honor and dignity.
