I don't actually agree with scrapping DownVotes on Hive - I think the current system works pretty well and for the most part they aren't used irresponsibly (although I guess 'irresponsible use' is in the eye of the beholder, open to definition.
A far bigger problem over there is care-less and often auto-voting distorting the reward pool distribution, but the overall DV weight on Hive can't come close to remedying that '(it's a 1-5 ratio I think).
As I understand it POB was founded by those who feel as if they've been unfairly Down Voted on Hive. I've only got half an idea of who these people are and who the Downvoters were, but I get it - you get treated unfairly and so you set up your own side chain to avoid that kind of thing happening again.
(Bit of a tangent..... It's a beautiful system actually, it's kind of like what Donald Trump could have done when he was censored on Twitter, if he'd had been on Hive.)
Anyway, the point is that POB is supposed to be different from Hive - so why not just scrap Down Votes after all?
As I can see from the proposals ATM, the votes are pretty close, so this is knife edge stuff, that's assuming there aren't a couple of whales who have piled in since I wrote this.
Being fortunate enough to have gotten in early and done the whole 'relatively massive stake' thing' on Leo (I had 40K at one point before stacking a good portion of that in Cub) I must say that over on Leo I don't DownVote anyway, and for the most part neither does anyone else.
Oh actually that's a lie I did DV someone once but that was a post shilling about how great Leo and Hive were and telling everyone to Power Up while they were Powering Down, and I mean i like a bit of Discord but blatant hypocrisy. NO.
But that's one use case in, what, over a year, I think I could probably live without it and put a snarky comment instead.
Maybe it's NOT a bad idea to have an ecosystem on Hive which differentiates itself ON HIVE by having no DownVotes?
And let's not forget, if people REALLY want to DV they can go over to Hive anyway and remove their Hive rewards, if not their POB rewards, if they're THAT triggered?
Markets are about choice, and what's the point in having three Tribes - Hive, Leo, POB which all have exactly the same DV mechanisms?
As I said above I personally think DVotes generally work well, but I'm not opposed to the idea either of having a place on Hive where they are just not used at all.
It could be worth trying after all....?
