Like you, I'm also glad I was in school in a different era. As someone who was in the "gifted" classes, then dropped out, then got a GED and went to college carrying a 4.0, my educational history is... tumultuous. These days I definitely would NOT have been left alone.
When my own kid started having trouble in school the teachers wanted him to get tested for all sorts of things. We were adamantly against it and damn near jumped across the table at the teacher and principal in one meeting. Instead, we put him in a more challenging charter school with a heavy STEM curriculum. He then thrived and had no problems from there forward. But had he been stamped with some label, who knows what that might have done to him.

But also, that won't be prompting me to go seek out any diagnoses or anything. I'm nearly 50 now. I've gotten along ok this far without that baggage.
