The mind of a human is like a computer in the sense that it is programmable.

Whenever you find a behaviour which is hard to control,it suggests that the brain has been programmed so it influences the body to be stronger than your mind.
Say for example, your mind does not want to procrastinate, but then you've been procrastinating for the past 5 years, because of your repeated action over the years, you have conditioned your body to procrastinate on autopilot.
Actually, during this 5 year period, and everytime you procrastinate, there are certain chemicals released by the brain which makes your body feel a certain way.
After repeating that behavior for years and the body has gotten used to the chemicals it would become hard to change i.e to stop procrastinating.

It is the same scenario when it comes to traumatic events, because of a certain event which caused the body pain, the brain would want to identify the cause of that event so that it won't repeat itself again.
As long term memories are created from highly emotional experiences, whenever you think of that event or you are in a similar situation, the body begins to feel the same way it felt when the event actually occurred.
The body can't really tell the difference between whether the event is actually occurring or you're only thinking about it.
What then is way foward

Change happens when you don't make the same choices as the day before and the moment you make a different choice get ready to become uncomfortable.
The body always wants to feel the same way,it wants to return back to familiar territory whenever you try to change.
So the body begins to influence the mind with discouragements, the minute you respond to that thought it would lead to the same choice and then create the same experience which will produce the same emotion.
The way to brainwash yourself and control your brain is to rehearse whatever action you want by closing your eyes.

Doing this you are installing a new program into your brain so that it looks like the event already occurred and don't forget that the body wants to be in familiar territory so eventually the body will support the change.
When you do this, the brain is no longer a record of past events but a map to the future.
What you do when you rehearse the action by closing your eyes is that you are teaching your body how it will feel ahead of the actual experience you desire.
