For the 43rd #FungiFriday hosted and curated by @ewkaw, I'd like to share some typical mushrooms of Sumatra's tropical rainforest.
The candy apple waxy cup—a rather unique name—is the common name of the species Hygrocybe cuspidata. I think this fungus is rare considering that this is the first time I've found it during mushroom walks in the last two years.
The cap of the mushroom is bright red (some are said to be orange) with yellow gills and stems. Juvenile mushrooms have a conical cap (see the image below).
These photos were taken in two separate places that are still in the North Aceh area: the Mbang and the Nisam Antara forest.
The sole trumpet mushroom in the Nisam Antara forest had a shiny reddish hue. Panus fasciatus is the scientific name for this species.
This is a species of Podoscypha nitidula that I also found in North Aceh's Mbang forest.
The physical is occasionally cup-shaped and has a hard, ceramic-like texture. I don't know what this mushroom's common name is, so I'll simply call it the "porcelain mushroom."
These mushrooms typically live longer, have a tendency to withstand the sun's heat, and most often reach huge sizes.
