It happened one sunny day this week, returning from the future. It was Wednesday, to be exact. In that little journey through time, I saw things I might not have needed to see. A painful reality, which should remain a secret, but I will break the agreement I signed with the agency for travelling to the future. They forbade me to say what would happen, to influence the course of history, but it is related to today's topic. With mushrooms.
Namely, that reality has already arrived, I lose nothing if I say: Mushrooms have disappeared from the planet earth. Aliens, or some other strange creatures who did not want to introduce themselves, were so fond of mushrooms that they decided to take them all with them, to their planet, and we were left without a single specimen. How sad, isn't it?
To be honest, I could not check whether this applies to other countries and corners of the world, but what is certain is that in this little forest, somewhere on the Mediterranean coast, mushrooms have disappeared. I walked on fortified paths, but also on those that are not drawn into the ground by the footsteps of walkers. I peered among the bushes, below the stones, looked at the trees, but there was no sign of mushrooms. Sadness was just confirmed every single step I made without sight of fungi.
There were only stones, trees, small strange plants and flowers in that forest. I even thought I would find some fungi behind this stone, but no, there was nothing there. A little further away, a strange sight awaited me.What is this? The arms of some alien, the ones who stole all the mushrooms? I just caught them in the act !! As I approached, I realized it was just a creeping cactus. But strangely enough, in the woods.
So I continued to walk, I lost all my hopes that mushrooms would appear. It was true, they were wiped off the face of the earth, at least it was true for Spain. But I am pretty sure, there will be so many photos today from other parts of the world, bringing the beauty of them. Not to be that sad, some small flowers were there to cheer up my thoughts.
And more of them, small little white flowers, which waved me to see them, told me a secret. Just keep going this way, there's some hidden mushroom to be found.
Ok, I found something, but hey, this is not a mushroom. It's a lichen! Not a real fungus what I need, however, I kept calm and continued my hunt, until...
...until I found the tree that conserved some fossil mushrooms on one side of it. They were old, but anyway, there were fungi, finally, some of them survived the alien attack and stayed here, with us.
And there were a lot of these little, plush, brown fungi. They looked like skirts, little invisible ballerinas with visible dresses. (please, don't pay attention to the blurry part of the photos ;D )
They inhabited this bark of a tree, which lay there in the woods. So, again, trees are the place where I should look for my Friday post. Because you know what the trend is on Fridays? You do not know? Well, then check this out:
-when Friday comes post your own, original photo/drawing/art/food/anything-at-all of any type of fungi
-add #FungiFriday tag (it doesn't have to be your first tag)
-include My contribution to #FungiFriday by @ewkaw anywhere in your post.
Ok, that part is done, the guidelines are included. What I will also include is this photo of the gills. I wanted to see what they look like, so I took one of the fungi off from the tree. It was completely dried up.
I am happy that the aliens still failed to take these specimens with them, so I was able to see them and bring them to this post. I hope they don't see these pictures, because if they do, they might come back and take this tree with them too. I wish everyone a happy FungiFriday, and that the mushrooms have not disappeared from your place of living. Or? Will I see a similar phenomenon today in some posts in this community?
P.S. If you are asking yourself why this last photo is coming... well, I have no clue. I just took this one in case, to show them as concrete mushrooms, a new species I have discovered...
You would not believe, eh?
Anyway, it will stay now :))
