Here are a couple fungi sightings for this #fungifriday
These yellow guys are commonly called flower pot mushrooms.
My wife likes to use organic soil for all her plants and it tends to be loaded full of this type of fungi when it gets hot in the summer.
Their Latin name is Leucocoprinus birnbaumii.
These are a toxic mushroom only if eaten and it causes stomach upset. Fortunately not deadly.
They were not only growing in our tomato plant but also our flower planters.
They seem to love an almost jungle environment when its hot and humid with lots of rain many of them hatch out. Sometimes they'll even sprout in plant pots inside. If you don't want them sporing out inside you'd better pick them as soon as they start pinning.
Next up is some purple crust fungi.
The Latin name is Trichaptum biforme and it eventually grows out into shelves that resemble turkeytail. Unfortunately it doesn't have any of the medicinal benefits of turkeytail. With the right extraction process you can make dye out of it though. I've never tried it but it is possible lol.
Now for some white crust fungi. Maybe this will turn into a toothed polypore of somekind eventually. Or it could just keep expanding in its crust format.
This pinkish stuff might be the start of Phlebia incarnata. It will eventually form soft skin-like shelves that are pink colored. It also sometimes gets confused with turkeytail but is much too soft compared to true turkeytail.
Broken branches at the bottom of the forest floor often yield many fungi discoveries. I was hoping to find some amber jelly roll but only found these strange looking crust fungi just starting out.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
