Life can be amazing.
Life can be hectic and complicated.
Life can also move at the speed of light that you just see yourself aging with loads of unachieved goals.
Life can sometimes be complicated, leaving mysteries in its wake.
These were my thoughts as I sat staring at my reflection in the mirror in front of me. In less than twenty minutes, I would be called on stage to give a speech about how my fashion line but deep down I knew they only wanted to see the ”person behind the name”.
My assistant walked into the break room with some snacks and drinks to help me relax but one look at the try and my appetite flew out the door.
”Hey Becky, what seems to be the problem? What aren't you eating? You need the energy you know, for your speech and all. So what's up?” Mirabel asked.
I looked Mirabel in the eyes. She has been my assistant for almost four years now and slowly she has become my confidant. Ilooked into her big brown eyes only to see the carefree allure of a young adult in it.
”You're still young and won't understand my fears. Those people out there aren't saints, they are out to see me make a mistake and then hover like vultures to spoil. I want this brand exhibition to be perfect but I don't know how” I said exasperatedly, slouching and heartbroken.
”Hmm, I think I might have a solution to your challenge but it will only last for one hour” Mirabel said, looking at me intently.
”Okay, what's your solution? Hurry up let's hear it” I perked up expectantly.
I watched Mirabel bring out a little wooden box from her bag, opened it and brought out a blue pill from the box.
”My aunt made this pill. He said it can grant a person access to computer shortcuts. It works but only for an hour and you can only use three shortcuts. After one hour, the pill effect would wear off and things would carry on as usual”
Without waiting to listen to any consequences, I took the pill from her and swallowed it. Immediately I felt electrical charges order through my veins and I could see things in binary format.
”Hello Becky are you alright? Do you feel any discomfort? Tell me what you see?” Mirabel whined as she waved her palms in front of my face.
” I think I'm a robot Mimi, I can see things in zeros and ones plus there are jolts of electricity coursing through my veins”. I replied
”Well, you have got to choose your three shortcuts now because you'll be called up the stage in less than thirty seconds” she said.
”Alright I got this”. I closed my eyes to imagine a keyboard and then with a slight smile, I made my three choices. I knew what I wanted and I clicked away at the ”imaginary keyboard” before my eyes.
1.Ctrl + B for boldness as I walked the length of the runway and back for my brand debut. This would boost my confidence as I sashayed across the stage without a cre in the world and even when I deliver my speech, I would kill it with a supervisor aura.
2.Ctrl + z to undo whatever blunder I make while delivering my speech or to undo any mistakes that might occur during the event.
3.Ctrl + v to paste the beautiful moments of my debut as a thriving fashion brand in society. When I would receive the standing ovation in commensuration of my talents and skills and in acknowledgement of my hard work, I want these moments to be pasted in the sands of time for generations to come.
The shout of ”time's up” by Mirabel brought me back to myself but I had a wicked smile on my lips. I knew this fashion debut would go down in history. I applied some finishing touches to my make up just in time for the MC to announce my name and the curtains opened. I turned and stared at the audience below the stage…..”get ready to wowed” I thought to myself and began my legendary walk down the runway.
