Good morning members of the LeoGrowth community. It's my first time participating in your daily prompt.
I'm glad to be a part of this community, and I hope I'm welcomed.
I was asked to write about the last time I Googled. It's quite an interesting topic, and I won't waste much time than to go straight to the point.
A few days ago, I visited my pastor at his residence. He offered me food to eat, and I appreciate him for that.
After that, he asked me a question. He asked me who I wanted to become in the future, and I responded that I wanted to become a Lecturer in the college and I wanted to make a difference.
He was so excited to hear that. So, he asked me another question. He asked me again if I'd been preparing ahead of that, and I told him I was reading.
He laughed out so loud, but I didn't understand why he acted that way. He asked me to give him the differences between reading and studying, and that was when I knew I was so empty.
I felt so ashamed of myself for not knowing what I was meant to know.
He didn't take it kindly we me. So he urged me to open my browser and start browsing. I did that with so much joy because I knew I was about to learn a new thing.
I started browsing immediately, and I realized that reading, and studying are different approaches to learning.
Here are a few things I learned.
(1) Studying requires one's focused attention, with the sole aim of achieving a desired goal that seemed unachievable.
(2) Studying involves in-depth analysis. This simply means that one should always study to know the subject matter, master it, and also apply the knowledge one has gotten in his or her everyday life.
(3) Study also requires critical thinking, as well as active engagement by an individual who's studying.
Reading, on the other hand, has to do with
(1) Passive engagement. In reading, people do not give much attention to what they're reading.
(2) Reading doesn't require in-depth analysis of the subject matter, but rather, it deals with general understanding.
(3) Reading can be done for some purposes ranging from entertainment, education, etc. People also read during their leisure time.
They read when they're less busy, and they have nothing to keep them company.
I learned a lot while going through what I browsed. And I noticed, I wasn't studying, but reading. I promised myself to be studying.
After that, my pastor taught me five principles of success using studying as a case study.
The five principles were:
(1) Studying
(2) Mediating
(3) Applying
(4) Obeying
(5) Success.
He also told me never to forget the most important aspects of studying, which were,
(1) Active engagement
(2) Goal
(3) Application of the knowledge in real-life situations and using it to solve people's problems.
It was indeed a great studying session, and I was richly blessed by what I browsed. It's good.
Thank you for your time.
