I can vividly remember how I first used a phone and even a desktop. The feeling was like I was in another world connecting to people through chatting and expressing myself, playing games, and all that; it was quite fascinating.
I didn't have the opportunity to use a phone earlier enough. All through my secondary school days, I never laid my hands on a phone because my parents didn't have the financial capacity for that. To worsen the situation, my grandmother, who raised me, deprived me of playing games with one of my friends phones who always visited our home. To her, I should remain content with what I have and don't desire people's properties.
I was limited to many things; it was as if my friends were ahead of me with the technological age, which was coming gradually back then. But in everything, I remained calm and respectful to my parents's decision. While I graduated from secondary school, I pleaded with my parents to enroll me in computer training. It was my first time getting exposed to what the Internet is and how I can easily get answers to my questions. Yea, I explored the Internet as the curious child I am to date. I almost left the main computer training I went for and couldn't have enough exploration with the Internet. I found it interesting to get an answer to all my weird questions. But then I found Mavis Beacon, a very nice game that speeds up my typing skills. Mavis beacon was more than a game to me. My first experience using a desktop was really nice, as I had the opportunity to explore the net and play one of my favorite games.
However, I enrolled for the computer training just for a few months, and it was time to live. I got disconnected again from digital lifestyle and not even a Nokia touch phone. At this point, I was already writing jamb, preparing for my university, and yet no phone. I later visited my aunt in another state, and over there I had a friend, a male friend who loved me dearly and wanted to connect with me. He bought me one Nokia Smart phone back then, and I collected it, lolz. Just as I was about understanding how a phone works, my mom seized the phone till date. She was overly mad at me for accepting a gift from a man. This is a story for another day but I learnt my lessons in a hard way.lol
The Nokia Smart phone was supposed to be my first phone, but mom said no! Literally, I started using a phone just when I got an admission into the university. Can you imagine that? I am sure that in today's world, no child will be totally deprived of that, especially when resources aren't the issue. I still didn't get a good phone at all, but an itel phone. It wasn't totally a smart phone because I remember struggling to browse my assignments with it via the Opramini browser on the phone, but then I was mostly playing games with the phone and having any unending chat with my present husband now. That was the era of 2Go. I did almost nothing valuable from the evening but chat and chat.
Today, with more development in technology, I have access to good Androids, and of course my usage now is different. The phone itself is fully featured and more useful in diverse areas. Back then, I wasn't productive with my phone because there were limits to what the phone could do. More reason why I always play those boring games š, and chat with my husband then till almost day break, what a life.. lolz. Today, with my Android phone, there are tons of things I engage myself with, which has improved my digital life drastically.
