When there's an opportunity or a chance for me to use Wi-Fi, I don't hesitate to do that because I consider it a free offer for the time being while saving my data. There are also other times when my data gets finished unexpectedly, and I request for someone's Wi-Fi to help me load data and stay online. But these days, hardly would you see me doing that now because I'm always at alert, monitoring my data while getting another one before it finishes.
When I gained admission years back, I was informed of free Wi-Fi on the school premises, but one would have to be in the library to access it. I remember only accessing it once, and that was because I went there to read some novels. Actually, what took me there originally was to charge my phone because there was no light in our area, except at the school, and the library was a place I could go to provided I had my ID card with me.
But since that once, I stopped going to the library, and accessing free Wi-Fi was impossible for me even when others enjoyed it. Also, it was an inconvenient thing for me to keep going to that particular spot because I wanted to use something free, and that made me forgo such a chance and only rely on my mobile data.
I have been using mobile data for years now, and I must say the convenience and the cost are something that I’m used to, especially with how data is now expensive. The only time I use Wi-Fi is when I need to use my laptop, and it will be connected to my phone.

I got this MTN MiFi from my sister, and it’s over a year already, and I’ve only used it thrice and returned back to mobile data. The reason is that I am used to using data rather than putting on this MiFi while connecting my phone’s hotspot. Most times, I would forget to use it and depend on my data mostly because of its convenience and easy access. Besides, the lack of electricity then couldn’t allow me to continue using it.
Another thing is, I rarely move around with the MiFi, and so whenever I'm out or even at home, I reach for my mobile data because it's always with me and taking the MiFi used to be like a double load on me.
But now that I’m in a better place with constant electricity, I’m thinking of returning back to recharging on it while sharing it with my phone and laptop, perhaps to make it easier. That way, I could even manage my data better and reduce how quickly I burn through data bundles. But this doesn’t mean it isn’t easier on my phone with mobile data, because it still remains the fastest go-to option. For the fact that I don’t want it to just lie there not doing anything, I don’t want to end up terming it ‘useless.’
I wouldn’t say it’s the cost, too, because the network I use on both are MTN and still the same amount of data I purchase on either of them. But just that I’m more used to mobile data for a long time, and even if someone decides to offer me free Wi-Fi, I might have used half of my data before realizing there’s a Wi-Fi to use.
In summary, while Wi-Fi seems like a good option, especially when free or shared, my daily routine and long-term habit make mobile data my preferred choice. The speed, flexibility, and accessibility of it just work better for me.
