If you’ve been following me for long I’m sure you’ve seen me share links to a number of great Humble Bundle offers in the past, often through my @exploreunlimited account where I publish much of my content related to comic book news and reviews.
You’ve probably also seen me share my penchant for art books and reference materials.
Well… my love of creating comics, blogging on Hive, and Humble Bundles seem to have all mashed together rather perfectly at the moment, as there are currently several different applicable bundles on offer, two of which I quickly scooped up today!
The first is Create Comics & Manga by the publisher Quarto. This bundle contains 25 art and illustration related books available to download in a variety of digital formats. $15 gets you the whole set. As with all Humble Bundle purchases, a portion of the proceeds also goes to charity.
This is an interesting mix of books that I would consider beginner to intermediate in nature. I’m a firm believer in studying and drawing inspiration and information from as many sources as possible. While these aren’t the most authoritative art instruction texts around, there’s plenty here to like and the price can’t be beat. After downloading this collection to my iPad, I’ve only briefly flipped through a small selection of the titles and am pleasantly surprised by the quality. They’re a welcome addition to my art book hoard.
The next Bundle I turned my eyes to was Become an Influencer by the publisher Wiley. This is a selection of 20 books centered around the topics of personal branding and social media marketing. While books like these can often become dated quickly, the volumes on branding and general marketing principles probably have a more lasting appeal.
These two Humble Bundles serve as a rather perfect pair for independent comic creators. Many artists will espouse the notion that to build a career you need to spend as much time marketing as you do creating. That is absolutely true. Between these two sets of resources you have a starter kit of information tailored to each side of that equation.
The Become an Influencer bundle alone will be relevant to almost anyone looking to write seriously on Hive and build their brand on the blockchain and beyond.
To top it off there is even a third bundle currently on offer focused on Game Design and Animation! Comic Creators should note that in this bundle there are books to learn software programs Clip Studio Paint and Blender available at the $1 pledge level, even if you don’t have interest in the full set. Clip Studio Paint is my own preferred illustration software, and many artists utilize Blender to incorporate 3D into their workflow.
Whew… to sum up… keep your eye on www.humblebundle.com! While it may still be best known for acquiring inexpensive video games, it’s also an amazing source of utilities for working creatives, often featuring ebooks and software at great values.
