One of the pleasures of people who live in the Caribbean is to drink coffee. We start from a very young age. It is no wonder why we also end up having some other things along the way like alcohol or other drugs. It all starts with those small sips of coffee during the hot afternoon. Maybe it was a thing of grandma or something else. I remember having coffee before going to school. It was usually coffee with milk and some sort of cookie.
For some reason I like to have something to dip in my coffee whenever I have it. It is something that brings me back to those days of my childhood at my grandma's having coffee. There was usually some sort of cookie or bread to get in the coffee. Dipping is a fun thing to do. Even if the cookie gets soggy and ends up falling in the coffee, you can get it back at the end of the cup. You just have to sip.
At La Panetteria, they sell this Big Cookies. They are literally called that. They usually have a filling and some chocolate at the top. It is by far one of the best things to dip in coffee. The best part is that usually while sharing one, I'll get some leftovers to keep dipping.
However, I gotta say that the best kind of beverage to dip something has to be hot chocolate. Into it, even white bread becomes something tasty. Honorable mentions go to the category of soups and creams. They work on dipping as well, but they need to have some curated bread or cookie of choice to make for a nice experience.
But the nicest experience in the whole deal about dipping something in your coffee is having someone to share that ritual. It could be the case that this person does not like the idea. But after watching you do it several times, might give it a try. Then they are hooked by the combination of flavors. Anyone who has gotten cookies in milk might understand this texture and flavor change. Once you do it with coffee there is no turning back. And I do not know if etiquette dictates otherwise. I'm all in for dipping something in my beverage.
