What's up Cinnamon Cup Coffee community! We are back to visit another coffee shop in the corners of Caracas. It has become a habit for me to go out to different parts of the city and not only discover new places, but also new experiences. On this occasion I want to share with you a place that I only visit on Christmas Eve because of its cozy atmosphere: The Opera Deli.
Opera Deli: A Place of Remembrance
This time, our trip takes us to the East of Caracas, Venezuela, specifically to Santa Monica. My workplace is relatively close to this place, but we only visit it on the days close to Christmas. This coffee shop is also a pastry shop and bakery. Over time, this place has gained a great reputation for its Christmas ham bread and its fruit and chocolate panettone.
The coffee they prepare here is really good, but it is much better when we come at this time because we take advantage of these moments to take stock of the achievements made by our laboratory not only in teaching, but also in research because as professors of the Central University of Venezuela we make a report and account of our teaching and research achievements. Having these meetings at the University is something cold and insipid, that is why we meet every year-end in this cafeteria that, as you can see, has a cozy Christmas atmosphere.
We have met here on happy Christmases when we achieved achievements and recognitions but also on sad Christmases like the years 2018 to 2020 in the midst of a political, economic and health crisis. That is why it has become a tradition to visit this place and this year could not be the exception.
Bread and Delicacies on the Order of the Day
Once we arrived, we ordered 2 coffees, mine and my tutor's. While we waited for our coffees to be served, one of the things I like to do is take a look at the bakery and delicacies they have on the counters. Here they have one of my favorite breads and one that I like to accompany with coffee in the mornings, corn bread. This bread is simply heavenly and every time I can, I take one home to enjoy.
Another thing I like to buy in the days leading up to Christmas here are the chocolate and banana muffins, they have a unique flavor and are really delicious. They also have black cake, although the only thing I couldn't see were the panettone, I suppose they will put them on sale later when we are in December.

And then I got to my favorite part, the sweets and delicatessen! The last time I met with my tutor she had invited us for coffee, so this time I will invite her to this chocolate croissant since we are fans of this type of sweet and over time we have acquired a rigorous palate when it comes to evaluating whether they are good or not.
A coffee with sugary bread and a chocolate croissant
The first thing that arrived were the coffees, I ordered a cappuccino since I had had a very light breakfast that morning and I was already craving something sweet, my tutor ordered a strong black coffee. She was happy when I ordered the chocolate croissant but she also wanted to contribute and ordered a couple of sugared breads that were really good too and that was because they had anise cloves, delicious!
It was then that they cut into our croissant and well it was quite disappointing to see how little chocolate it had, I was expecting it to be overflowing with Nutella like the ones you can get in the city centre. The good thing is that we had the sugared bread to complement while we enjoyed the coffees that were very good, reaffirming the fame of this place for the cups of coffee they prepare.

And so we spent the morning, taking stock of our activities, the projects we just finished and the future projects in this comfortable environment. It was funny because halfway through our conversation a professor at the University had called me to give me some laboratory material, so he had to wait until we finished our pleasant meeting to then attend to him. In short, a pleasant moment with my doctoral thesis advisor with whom I appreciate more and more the moments we spend together.
In summary, friends, Opera deli has a 10 for the coffee, 10 for the atmosphere and 8 for the croissant, which I don't know what happened to them here, they always stand out with the sweets and desserts, so in total they have a solid 9. Que tal Cinnamon Cup Coffee community! Volvemos nuevamente a visitar una cafeteria más de los rincones de Caracas, para mi se ha vuelto ya un hábito salir a distintas partes de la ciudad y así no solo ir descubriendo lugares nuevos, sino también experiencias nuevas. En esta ocasión quiero compartirles un lugar al que solo visito en vísperas de Navidad por su ambiente tan acogedor: El Opera Deli.
Ópera Deli: Un Lugar de Remembranzas
Nuestro viaje nos lleva esta vez al Este de Caracas, Venezuela específicamente a Santa Mónica. Mi lugar de trabajo esta relativamente cerca de este lugar pero solo lo visitamos los días próximos a Navidad y es que esta cafetería es también pastelería y panadería, con el tiempo este lugar se ha ganado una gran fama por su pan de jamón navideño y su panetón tanto de frutas como de chocolate.
El café que preparan aquí es realmente bueno, pero es mucho mejor cuando venimos en estas fechas porque aprovechamos estos momentos para hacer un balance de los logros hechos por nuestro laboratorio no sólo en la docencia, sino también en investigación porque como profesores de la Universidad Central de Venezuela hacemos una memoria y cuenta de nuestros logros docentes y de investigación. Hacer estas reuniones en la Universidad es algo frío e insípido por eso nos reunimos cada final de año en esta cafetería que como pueden ver tiene un acogedor ambiente navideño.
Nos hemos convocado aquí en navidades felices cuando alcanzamos logros y reconocimientos pero también en Navidades tristes como los años 2018 al 2020 en plena crisis política, económica y sanitaria. Por eso se ha vuelto ya una tradición visitar este lugar y este año no podía ser la excepción.
Pan y Delicateses a la Orden del Día
Al llegar, pedimos 2 cafés el mío y el de mi tutora, mientras esperábamos que nos sirvieran los cafés una de las cosas que me gusta hacer es echar un vistazo a la panadería y delicateses que tienen en los mostradores. Aquí tienen uno de mis panes favoritos y que me gusta acompañar con café en la mañanas, el pan de maíz. Este pan es simplemente la gloria y cada vez que puedo me llevo uno para disfrutarlo en casa.
Otra de las cosas que me gusta comprar en los días próximos a la navidad aquí son los muffins de chocolate y cambur, tienen un sabor único y realmente deliciosos. También tienen torta negra aunque lo único que no pude ver fueron los panetones supongo que más adelante los pondrán a la venta cuando ya estemos en diciembre.

Y luego llegue a mi parte favorita, los dulces y postres! La última vez que me reuní con mi tutora ella había invitado los cafés, así que en esta ocasión yo le invitaré este croissant de chocolate ya que somos fans de este tipo de dulce y con el tiempo hemos adquirido un riguroso paladar al momento de evaluar si son buenos o no.
Un Café con Pan Azucarados y Croissant de Chocolate
Lo primero que llegó fueron los cafés, yo pedí un capuchino ya que había desayunado algo muy ligero esa mañana y ya tenía ganas de probar algo dulce, mi tutora pidió un café negro cargado. Ella se alegró cuando pedí el croissant de chocolate pero quiso aportar también pidió un par de panes azucarados que estaban realmente buenos también y eso era porque tenían clavos de anís, una delicia!
Fue entonces cuando nos cortaron el croissant y bueno fue bastante decepcionante ver el poco chocolate que tenia, esperaba que estuviera rebosando de Nutella como los que puedes conseguir en el centro de la ciudad. Lo bueno es que teníamos el pan azucarado para completar mientras disfrutábamos de los cafés que si estaban muy buenos, reafirmando la fama de este lugar por las tazas de café que preparan.

Y así pasamos la mañana, haciendo un balance de nuestras actividades, de los proyectos que acabamos de culminar y los proyectos futuros en este ambiente tan cómodo. Fue gracioso porque a mitad de nuestra conversación un profesor en la Universidad me había llamado para entregarme un material de laboratorio, así que tuvo que esperar a que termináramos nuestra agradable reunión para luego atenderlo. En definitiva un agradable momento con mi tutora de tesis doctoral con quien cada vez aprecio más los momentos que compartimos juntos.
En resumen amigos, Opera Deli tiene un 10 en el café, 10 en ambiente y 8 en el croissant que no sé que les pasó aquí siempre destacan con los dulces y postres, así que en total tienen un sólido 9.
