I have always suffered constantly from a sore throat, swollen tonsils and all that sort of thing.

In fact, these days (December) I went to the doctor with the problem of an aggravated earache. I even had a fever and the pain never went away. I had already gotten used to living with the pain after 3 months of putting up with it.

And among the various things the doctor told me was that my earache (otitis) was closely related to the flu I had. He explained to me how all these pathways were connected and I was frankly a little incredulous because the doctor had previously prescribed me a treatment and it hadn't worked, but anyway. Who can think clearly with a sharp pain in one ear and half their face swollen from it?

He examined my throat and prescribed me several kinds of pills, as well as making me gargle with salt water whenever I could, at least 3 times a day. And that is frankly very difficult for me.

But getting back to what concerns us, half of the population of Maturín or more was or is suffering from the flu around this time, and around here one usually drinks teas with lemon and such things to help in the recovery process.

So, I prepared the tea with dried passion fruit leaves (they say they help calm the nerves and all that and my mom gave me a considerable amount because I couldn't sleep), lemon and turmeric. At this point I have a lot of faith in turmeric. It's one of the few things that necessarily makes me sleep. It's such an intense tiredness that I can fall asleep anywhere.

I was going to add citronella, but when I went to remove more leaves from the plant, it turned out to be dry. And my roommate told me that I had to be more careful about watering the plants she has there, because she goes away for two days and everything is already dry. 🥲

In my defense, I've never been good at taking care of anything, especially living things like a plant. I mean, I like them and all, but I don't usually plant them. I had some flowers planted in my previous house, and I used to water them daily but I moved out of there like 4 months ago and left them at that house. I could have brought them, because my previous house is a couple blocks away, but I wasn't that attached to them to do that.

My current roommate, on the other hand, has an incredible love for plants. So I water them mostly as a favor to her.

This day was one of those where I manage to get up early to do my chores. You know. Follow a routine. Normally I go to bed late, get up late, and everything I have prepared gets a little out of control, I manage to do 50% and the other 50% gets postponed again and again.

But this day I was able to start - at least begin - the day well. "On the right foot," as they say. It's silly, but it brings me peace of mind and a sense of control. I even feel responsible. 🤣

Pero volviendo a lo que nos conscierne, la mitad de la población de Maturín o más estaba o está sufriendo de gripe por estas fechas, y por aquí uno suele beber tés con limón y esas cosas para ayudar en el proceso de recuperación.

Entonces, preparé el té con hojas de parchita secas (dicen que sirven para calmar los nervios y eso y mi mamá me dió una cantidad considerable porque yo no podía dormir), limón y cúrcuma. A estas alturas le tengo bastante fe a la cúrcuma. Es de las pocas cosas que necesariamente sí me hace dormir. Es un cansancio tan intenso que puedo quedarme dormida en cualquier lado.

Le iba a agregar citronela, pero cuando fui a quitarle más hojas a la planta, resulta que estaba seca. Y mi compañera de vivienda me dijo que tenía que estar más atenta de regar las plantas que tiene allí, porque ella se va dos días y ya todo está seco. 🥲

En mi defensa, nunca he sido buena cuidando de nada, especialmente de cosas vivas como una planta. Es decir, me gustan y eso, pero no suelo sembrarlas. Tenía unas flores sembradas en mi casa anterior, y solía regarlas a diario pero me mudé de allí hace como 4 meses y las dejé en esa casa. Pude traerlas, porque mi casa anterior queda a un par de cuadras, pero no tuve tanto apego a ellas como para hacer eso.

En cambio, mi compañera de vivienda actual, tiene un amor increíble hacia las plantas. Así que yo las riego más que todo como un favor hacia ella.

Este día fue uno de esos donde logro levantarme temprano a hacer mis tareas. Ya saben. Seguir una rutina. Normalmente me acuesto tarde, me levanto tarde, y todo lo que tengo preparado se sale un poco de control, logro hacer un 50% y el otro 50% se pospone una y otra vez.
