Hi Hivers and members of the Cinnamon
Cup Coffee Community. How are you?
This week , I caught up with a family friend at Nishimura’s Coffee.
Have you been there?
I took the above photo outside the shop. It’s a display of some of the items they offer. They are just replicas but look quite identical to the actual items they serve. That kind of display is very popular at restaurants and cafes. You can see almost exactly what you’ll be getting and can decide on an order before entering or looking at the actual menu.
Nishimura’s Coffee is a historical coffee shop or cafe renown in Kobe and Japan in general. It was established in 1948 and is said to be the first shop in Japan to serve cappuccino, coffee jelly and straight black coffee as menu items.
There are about nine shops in the Kobe area. Each is quite elegant with antique furnishing and decor. Nishimura’s Coffee serves top quality coffee from around the world and is said to use mineral water from the Rokko mountains of Kobe. The shops offer a wide variety of desserts, juices and some morning set options.
I have glimpsed displays of traditional coffee equipment there. I’ll try to capture some on my next visit. There might be a challenge to do so without getting in the way of a customer.
The one I went to was in Sannomiya. I was able to take a few pics and brochures on my way out.
I look forward to going to a few of the other locations. ☕️
