As they say “We are all wired differently” The differences in our wiring is what create beautiful bonds and spices up our relationships with people.
What happens when every Tom, Dick, and George behave the same way? Boring yeah? Absolutely! Adding variety to the mix is a game-changer and I am a huge fan of variety.
Living in a country like mine where coffee is mostly associated with cold weather, an antidote to staying up late or for loosing weight, the percentage of people who do not drink coffee is relatively higher than people who do.
While some families and organizations embrace coffee as a lifestyle or tradition in their homes and organizations another category of people believe that a hot cup of coffee should be taken when there’s a heavy downpour or when there is harmattan (which is the closest to winter for us here) and you are cold to your bones and you need something hot to make you feel more alive.
Going with these vast differences in the number of coffee drinkers and nondrinkers in my country, the chances of meeting a noncoffee lover on a first date or a random meeting for the first time are very high.
Meeting such a person and using their like or dislike for coffee to judge them or letting this discovery affect your relationship with them is a No, No for me.
What if they don’t drink coffee or they dislike the scent of coffee? What’s the big deal? As a person, there are certain things we do not like too, so a person’s coffee status should never be an avenue to judge people nor should it affect our relationship with others.
In a country like mine judging people by their coffee status would only mean you judging so many people Lol, as out of 10 to 15 dates you go on, the probability of meeting a coffee lover like yourself here is 4:6.
As much as I love coffee and I uphold certain coffee traditions that I wouldn’t trade for anything, I wouldn’t judge a person based on their like or dislike for coffee as one’s preference for coffee does not determine how much of a good person they are.
For example, I decided to go on this date with you my friend, the goal is to get to know you more and to build a connection and if things go smoothly we can hit it off from there. I’m sure as hell not going to throw all that away the moment you tell me you don’t drink coffee or you dislike the smell of it.
If I enjoy your company I’ll still hang out with you regardless of where you stand with coffee.
There are some things I’d pay attention to when I meet you for the first time and your coffee status is not on the list.
You can be very unkind and mean but does your love for coffee make me see you differently? Or make me want to stick around longer? Hell No!
I’ll never judge anyone because of their preference, coffee lover or not, if we connect on a certain level and wish to take things to another level, great!
At the end of the day what matters is the connection we make and the bond we begin to create and certainly not the coffee status.
Embracing the differences in people makes you unique.
