Hi, coffee lovers!
I've been wanting to try any of those tempting matcha drinks I've seen, but coffee completly has me. Always. Until now.
My boss, who happens to be my eldest sister, took us to visit GreenHaus Krause. It was her treat π Here I had my first latte matcha, which I had never tried before, and I as I saw the options on the menu, some of them new to me, I thought it'd the perfect excuse to make my first coffee/tea-related post in Cinnamon Cup Coffee for #TheCoffeeShopPrompt topic 18.
This was the place.
The sign reads Panes & CafΓ©, "Bread & Coffee," or "Buns and Coffee."
They have a varied menu ranging from herbal ifusions to teas, coffees, sandwiches and delicious pizzas. Their breads are sourdough and slow fermented. The latter is their signature. I'm not sure if all their slow fermentation baked goods are always sourdough. Next time, I will ask.
They had tea under the infusion category...
...Whereas the matcha latte was among the coffees.
I asked the waiter, who was the kindest young man, if that was actually milk + green tea only, and he said, "yes" with the biggest smile. And this how you solve a dividing and classifying issue; you smile back and order that matcha latte from the smiling waiter and quickly refocus on having a good time.
Usually, I don't have anything with lactose in it. Today I made an exception, as I knew I would end up drinking and eating, well, whatever. No stress.π
For the past fourteen years, I've traveled every Friday Anzoategui, a neighboring state about an hour's drive from here where my second job is. I work all day and I'm usually back home by Saturday night. But sometimes we work long, long hours, that I have to stay over for another day. We often take the opportunity to go out and have a good time. I'm glad I stayed and had the opportunity to visit this place.
Since the intensification of the economic crisis of 2015 in Venezuela, many businesses open and close before the year. This one in particular has survived, at least its first year. They have a green atmosphere: they are eco friendly, pet friendly, and have this aquaponic garden where they grow their on vegetables to use in some of their drinks and dishes.
Undoubtedly, aquaponics is a very self-sufficient system for growing some of your own food; although high maintenance, it is sustainable and generally environmentally friendly as it economizes on land and water (and fuel for transporation); however, if you're vegan, e.g., you may think that the welfare of these tilapias is questionable. I saw they live in these tanks and I couldn't tell if, perhaps, they'd need more space?
The aquaponic garden is a super brightly lit and beautifully green place; I wonder if the fish are not stressed with so much light. I don't know; the place is beautiful and I hate to kill the magic, but one shouldn't let these things go, so I plan to find this out.
Although customers are not allowed in here, they do give you a little tour if you ask for it. We did.
The place used to be a family house, a big one; it has a traditional feel and a very nice decoration; there are plants everywhere and the color palette is reminiscent of our colonial era. Overall, the place is cozy, homey smelling, and makes you want to come back.
I was delighted to have tried this tea; it is a full-bodied drink with an aftertaste of herbs and nuts. As usual, I drink my tea without sugar; next time, maybe I'll try it with a little, just to give my taste memory something to amuse itself with. The waiter brought my matcha latte with this little cookie.
I could see how some of the matcha powder stuck to the wall of the cup as I drank it. When I finished, I scraped a little and put it in my tongue so I could feel its flavor and texture fully. Without a doubt, matcha is a favorite when it comes to flavoring and dyeing foods, besides being super healthy, it's just delicious. I've seen incredible matcha based recipes here on Hive.
I've read that the plant from which matcha comes, Camellia Sinensis, is originally from China although it was popularized by the Japanese. These plants are grown in the shade, thus increasing the levels of chlorophyll and antioxidants. This means that if you have matcha every day, you'll smell like chiclets and look young π I've been hearing about its health benefits for a long time; I can't believe I don't have it in my cupboard--although I do have green tea.
After tasting this matcha latte, I must have it in my kitchen. Not often I could afford it at the coffee shop. This was the check.
We also tried some of their cold infusions: mine was green tea and orange.
Although their drinks are a little expensive, they are big.
Their pizzas have a good size as well. We couldn't finish ours.
They seem to care about the environment. They served our drinks with these agave fiber cocktail straws.
Ah, the traditional latte was spectacular, too. We ordered those after we ate; it was like dessert. It was creamy and deliciously aromatic.
Looking forward to my next matcha latte. Hopefully, I'll make it at home, although I wouldn't mind coming back to this place and more if my boss treats me π
