Well... I decided to share my preferred coffee for the summer and this is the cold brewed coffee. And I think of all the existing coffee brewing methods, this is the easiest.
You literally need only coffee and water. No heating needed. No electricity needed. Only coffee, water and a little bit longer time. About 8-10 hours minimum. Of course, you will need a coffee mug and some sort of a filter.
The grinding size of the coffee should be at least V60, but finer will work well too. If you use espresso ground coffee, the bitterness would turn out to be a bit higher. The coffee I am using for cold brew is ground at drip coffee size. It’s pre-ground and I found the perfect coffee for cold brew in a local supermarket.
The price is very good for 250 grams. It’s about $3, which is perfect for me. Using pricier coffee may be bad for my budget, because for 4 average coffees, I use about 50 grams of coffee.
The brewing is very easy. You just put the coffee and pour cold water on it. I use a special “cold brew” jug, which has a very fine mesh inside. It divides the ground coffee from the surrounding. This way the dividing of the coffee from the final liquid is elementary.
After the jug is filled with water (approx. 650 ml) I put the coffee in the refrigerator to rest and this, water is extracting the coffee. The process is very slow, because of the low water temperature. You will need to leave the coffee at least 8-10 hours. I sometimes leave mine even more. Something like 12-15 hours. After that period has passed, your coffee is ready to drink.
An ice cube makes nice company of this coffee. Pour about 150 ml in it and the coffee is ready to enjoy.
Now, summer is ready to be enjoyed.
And what is your favorite variety of coffee for the hot summer months?
I’ll be happy to hear some feedback.
Bye and see you soon!
