My best wishes to all coffee lovers members of the hottest community of Hive, today I am very happy to participate in this week's tcsp, because it made me remember my youthful days and to remember is always to live again.
In the mid 90's I was working as a teacher of Political Economy at the Pedagogical of Technical Sciences and we were proposed to participate in the preparation of the new political economy program that would be implemented called Plan C, well the team that would work on it had to meet at the Ministry of Education (MINED) twice a week. MINED was located at that time in the heart of Old Havana, on Obispo Street, in front of the famous Ambos Mundos Hotel, in what is today the University of San Geronimo.
Well, at the end of the work session we went for a coffee, just in front we had one that was always very full so we went to a particular cafeteria located inside one of the streets surrounding the MINED. This cafeteria was located in an inner courtyard, very cozy for its plants, to get there you had to go through a wide corridor, in darkness that the first time imposed a little respect, but the coffee so good, the tranquility of the place, the delicious croquettes that were offered, the simplicity and kindness of the lady who attended us made you come back often.
Recently in one of my trips to Old Havana with the aim of buying an original gift for the birthday of a friend in the house of perfumes or in the house of the fans, without intending to pass by the place where the cafeteria was located and the surprise I got was huge.
The small business became a big business, there are no longer 4 tables in the patio, but in the darkened corridor there are several tables, but the best thing is that the decoration of the place is really phenomenal, as they have used objects from the 50's that gives a very peculiar touch, such as two-tone shoes that were used a lot, Coca Cola advertising signs and vending machines, a Victrola, in short the place is a museum, the inner courtyard maintains its plants and has a screen with stained glass that separates the corridor from the courtyard.
It was very gratifying to see how this lady who started with something so small and simple was able to grow with hard work and bequeath to her family a prosperous business, she is no longer alive but everyone remembers her with affection and keeps among the special offers her special croquettes and of course a coffee that is now made with a modern machine.
