Hunting new coffee shops is a thing of mine, many of you have probably noticed already. The hunt is much more interesting when I'm in a different city, but it's usually a solo thing.
My wife only joins me for our mandatory Tabaq dates. Yes, Tabaq is numero uno for me, and she loves Tabaq just as much as I do, but I do like to change it up every now and then.
This time the coffee shop hunt was in Khulna, me and the wifey decided to head out for some coffee. That day we both were visiting my cousin and her family, the plan was to join them for dinner. And earlier that day me and the wife decided to grab some late night coffee after finishing up with our little dinner visit, so she suggested Coffeetaaa, which is a newly opened café just beside Khulna New Market.
However, when we were heading out after dinner, we surely weren't expecting two little minions to join us on our little coffee hunt.
Fortunately, this coffee shop was close by, and we had just over an hour before closing time, which was 11PM. So, me and my wife grabbed both the minions and were on our way, in pursuit of some late night coffee.
Now, these minions that I'm talking about, I'm actually talking about my nephew and niece.
I met them after just over a year, so it's been a while. As we were heading out, one of them jumped up and started suggesting that we take them with us. So, me and the wife decided to take them with us for a little journey; we'd at least have some extra pair of hands to help us with this hunt.
So, my cousin got them both ready in a jiffy and we were on our way.
We all got down and took an auto-rickshaw towards New Market, it's the cheapest and most common means of transport here in Khulna. It's also big enough to fit 4 to 5 people with ease.
It probably took us just over 5 minutes or so to reach our destination, because in Khulna the roads are completely empty during these hours, unlike Dhaka.
After getting here I realized that this café is an art based coffee shop, with a lot art, classic furniture and open areas, also a book corner for book lovers. The music was quite nice too, soothing. Overall it was a cozy and peaceful little spot, probably because we were there at late hours. When we got there only one other table was occupied.
My wife mentioned earlier that the food here is quite good, but we were already full, so all the food tasting would have to wait for another day.
As we waited for our coffee we decided to roam around a bit, scouring the book shelves, and clicking pictures in the very picturesque areas. One thing I've nothing in these Khulna restaurants and cafes is that they always have a photo corner of some sorts. A corner or wall that always has vibrant colors and unique décor, with the assistance of some great lighting.
It's a good strategy to bring in the customers who like to click a ton of photos haha.
As everyone quite effortlessly posed away, I went ahead and clicked a fair share of candid photos. When the person in the frame isn't paying much attention, those pictures usually turn out to be the best of the bunch.
Me and the wifey ordered our usual, a cappuccino. For the minions it was a cup of hot chocolate which they shared.
We were so busy clicking pictures that we had forgot about our order, by the time we sat down for a sip our drinks were already fairly cold haha. Well, at least the chances of us burning our tongues was 0, especially for the little ones. The love story of me and a hot cup of coffee burning my tongue goes way back, so nowadays I'd rather be safe than sorry.
The coffee was good, the price was reasonable too, for both the amount and the quality they have. A big ole cup of caffeine injected fuel this late at night? Who doesn't love that?
Our group of four sipped away and were done just before closing time. So, we headed out and hopped on another auto-rickshaw, on our way back to the lair of these two minions. After dropping them off we took the same rickshaw back to our place.
It was quite a memorable day, a tad bit unplanned during the end, but it actually went well.
Thanks to these two minions, who were fairly calm, they don't like to create a scene haha. But I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't worried when we decided to take them with us at first lol.
Yet, I say it's a good addition to our coffee hunting journeys. Sometimes it feels good to change things up a bit.
