Starting A Coffee as A Business.
If so happened, my Life partner, decided to leave the city and wanted to own a coffee farm and do a business out of it, I would definitely say "I finally found The One!" Farming is one of the goals I have in mind when I retire, owning Agricultural land, growing my own food, integrating it, making it sustainable, and creating a community within it, and if this aligns with my partner then we shall carry on!
But we're bought from the city and definitely would have little to zero ideas of farming aside from consuming the product. 😅 So I would list down all the things we should consider and show it to the soon-to-be-Mrs. Mebu.
Honey, I jot down the things we should consider for the farm!
Location
- One thing I have learned in Real estate, is that whatever business I will have, the first thing I should look into is location, location, location, It should be accessible to where we are coming from, the farm should have a good to best climate for the coffee trees, Is the location abundant with water.
- Personally, I would want the farm close to the beach.
What are we buying?
- Everything should be clear about what we are buying for. is it just the land? Are there crops that are up already?
- Is there an available workforce that can help manage the farm?
- Where are the nearest shops that we can supply to?
Can we maximize the land to put up a bed and breakfast
- If I am buying land of course I want to maximize the whole thing, plus it would be awesome to serve guests with your own product right?
- Coffee Shop in the Morning, A Reggae bar in the evening.
What are the requirements to purchase the property?
- Are the documents complete?
- Do they have the original title?
- Is the real estate tax updated? Is it under any bank loan?
- Who are the owners?
How much are we talking about?
- Since we are investing we should get the best value for our money. The property should be lower than the fair market value, or close to it.
If everything is in place and all requirements are met, I would definitely be opening up a coffee shop on the farm itself and expanding to the beach offering the best coffee and the best view, just like the drawing I created for this post!
And these are the five factors that can help me decide to push through!
