One morning you wake up, you get ready to look for your favorite cup of coffee and when you go to prepare it, you realize that there is none. You leave the house and try to get it in a coffee shop, but you are informed that there isn't any either and this is repeated everywhere? What would you do?
Simply, the coffee is gone forever.
This curious thought came to my mind while I was enjoying a delicious espresso at the Gym I usually go to. I thought about it because, at the time, I was drinking to have more energy for my exercise routine. At first, I thought it was crazy to imagine that scenario because come on, no coffee lover can afford to imagine a world without their favorite beverage. However, what if one day we woke up and coffee actually disappeared? I think life itself would disappear with it, and I don't think I'm exaggerating.
Without coffee, life would be very boring: we would walk around like zombies, in a lethargy that would never end. Most of the products we consume have caffeine, we would hardly escape from a chain of sudden changes and terrible nightmares. Can you imagine not being able to drink your first cup of coffee of the day? Everything would become worse, because something would be lost and with that, what gives us energy or creativity. Without caffeine the world would immediately come to a standstill. Nothing would ever be the same again and we would be embraced by the apocalypse in a few seconds. I do not hesitate to say that humanity would collapse, after all, a large part of it wakes up with a cup of coffee in the morning.
It would not be long before we would notice the great void left by the absence of coffee.
We would begin to miss its taste and smell, and all those pleasant sensations that it caused us. In a short time, the scientists of the world would not hesitate to try to recover it, with unimaginable effort. The global crisis would be very serious, in addition to the fact that it would have a very strong impact on people's state of mind. For many, a life without coffee is a life that has no meaning.
Are we aware of what coffee represents in our lives?
Drinking coffee, more than a habit, is an intrinsic part of our own existence. If coffee did not exist, not only would a beverage or a custom be lost, but also the entire culture that derives from it would be erased. Without coffee, we could not have an identity, we could not even be conscious. I say this in deep relation to what I usually do; I am not exaggerating when I say that for me coffee is a source of inspiration, what sustains me and what helps me to be creative. That is my identity, and I know that you, who read me, also have an equally deep relationship with the coffee you drink....
Of course, all these assumptions are mine and are based on the imagination of a coffee lover who never wants this to happen, and I know it never will. But if this reflection helps us to love and value coffee much more, well, it is a good reflection then. Thank God, coffee is always there ;-).
What would you do if you woke up one day and coffee disappeared from the face of the earth?
In my case, I would dedicate all my efforts to recover it. Coffee is a legacy of memory, humanity and beauty, and it will be difficult to erase or extinguish it, even if it disappears.

Una mañana te levantas, te dispone a buscar tu taza favorita y cuando vas a preparar el café, te das cuenta de que no hay. Sales de casa e intentas tomarlo en una cafetería, pero te informan que tampoco hay y esto se repite en todos lados... ¿Qué harías?
Simplemente, el café desapareció para siempre.
Este curioso pensamiento vino a mi mente mientras disfrutaba de un delicioso expreso en el Gym al que acostumbro ir. Lo reflexioné porque, en ese momento, bebía para tener más energías al momento de realizar mi rutina de ejercicios. Al principio me die que era una locura imaginar ese escenario porque vamos, ningún amante del café puede darse el lujo de imaginar un mundo sin su bebida favorita. No obstante, ¿y si un día despertamos y en realidad en café desaparece? Creo que la propia vida desaparecía con él, y no creo estar exagerando.
Sin café la vida sería muy aburrida: andaríamos por allí, como zombis, en un letargo que jamás acabaría. Gran parte de los productos que consumimos tienen cafeína, difícilmente escaparíamos de una cadena de cambios bruscos y terribles pesadillas. ¿Imaginas no poder beber tu primera taza de café del día? Todo se haría peor, pues algo estaría perdido y con eso, lo que nos otorga energía o creatividad. Sin cafeína el mundo se paralizaría de inmediato. Nada volvería a ser igual y nos abrazaría el apocalipsis en pocos segundos. No dudo en decir que la humanidad colapsaría, después de todo, gran parte de esta se despierta con un café por las mañanas.
No tardaríamos en notar el gran vacío que nos deja la ausencia del café.
Comenzaríamos a extrañar su sabor y olor, y todas esas sensaciones agradables que nos causaba. En poco tiempo los científicos del mundo no dudarían en tratar de recuperarlo, con esfuerzo inimaginable. La crisis global sería muy grave, además de que eso impactaría muy fuerte en el estado de ánimo de las personas. Para muchos, una vida sin café es una vida que no tiene sentido.
¿Somos conscientes de lo que representa el café para nuestras vidas?
Beber café, más que una costumbre, es parte intrínseca de la propia existencia. Si este no existiera, no solo se perdería una bebida o una costumbre, sino que también se borraría toda la cultura que de este se desprende. Si café, no podríamos tener identidad, no podríamos ser siquiera conscientes. Esto lo digo en profunda relación con lo que suelo hacer; no exagero al decir que para mí el café es una fuente de inspiración, lo que me sostiene y lo que me ayuda a ser creativo. Esa es mi identidad, y sé que tú, que me lees, también tienes una relación igual de profunda con el café que bebes...
Por supuesto, todas estas suposiciones son mías y se basan en la imaginación de un amante del café que no quiere que esto pase nunca, y sé que nunca pasará. Pero si esta reflexión nos ayuda a amar y valorar mucho más al café, pues es una buena reflexión entonces. Gracias a Dios, el café está allí siempre ;-).
¿Qué harías tú si te despiertas un día y el café desaparece de la faz de la tierra?
En mi caso, destinaría todo mi esfuerzo para recuperarlo. El café es un legado de memoria, humanidad y belleza, y será difícil que, aun desapareciendo, se pueda borrar o extinguir.
