Today I want to share with you a delicious discovery I recently made: an amazing coffee called Don Emilio. It's a local product, straight from the community of Caripe in my state, Monagas, here in Venezuela.
From Moto Mamis to Coffee Flavored Businesses
It all started a couple of months ago. While I was riding my scooter around town, a girl approached me with an interesting proposal: she was forming a group of women motorcyclists to represent the state. I was immediately encouraged!
After a few weeks and the creation of a WhatsApp group, we finally met in person. It was our first “moto mamis” meeting, where we socialized and took some pictures. Since then, we have kept in touch through the group.
It was there that one of the moto moms told us about her family business. She had had to pause it for a while due to personal situations, but now she was taking it up again and asked us for support. As good Venezuelan women who support each other, we started to place orders for her.
I ordered 250 grams to try. However, at the time of delivery, she only had 500 grams left. In order not to make him lose the trip to my house, I bought it from him, taking the risk of not liking the taste. But lucky me! The coffee turned out to be really good.
Quality Coffee and Entrepreneurship Support
This coffee cost me $7 and comes in silver packaging. It has an excellent flavor and aroma, and the best part is that it is not mixed with other beans, something common in some coffees sold out there. It was a great purchase! These days I have received many visits from relatives, and they have taken the opportunity to use my new coffee maker, of which, by the way, I only have an $8 installment to pay. I am very happy with my acquisitions!
Sometimes it happens to me that I buy something to help someone and then I regret it, but this time it wasn't like that. I love supporting entrepreneurs, especially young people. Recently, at the gym, two boys about 15 years old who also train there approached me with a lot of embarrassment to offer me some socks they were selling. Their shyness was showing.
So I took my time to choose some. To help them out, I offered the socks to other girls at the gym, and they ended up buying almost all of them. The boy was happy with their sales and I was happy to have been able to help them!
The Authenticity of Café Criollo
As I was saying, I really value people who are entrepreneurs. In my city, there are many entrepreneurs in the coffee business. However, as always, there are those who take advantage of the “artisanal” label and mix it with other beans such as roasted corn. Although this is more profitable and more economical for them as sellers, for us as consumers it makes us hesitate before buying.
For this reason, whoever sells criollo coffee always clarifies that it is not mixed. When this happens, the flavor changes, it acquires a very particular burnt taste that is noticeable. Fortunately, in this case this was not the case. It is a coffee that I would buy again without hesitation, for its intense flavor and good aroma. With half a kilo of this coffee, I can forget about it for several days without having to go out to buy it.
So let's keep trying new brands of coffee!
