Good day everyone, I am @lorene08 back again with another exciting blog to share.
Last July 29, 2025, we had our first-ever performance for our Physical Education subject. It was honestly one of the most memorable performances I’ve had so far this school year. Even though it was exhausting, I still had fun, not just me, but also my groupmates and some of our classmates.
The class was divided into six groups with 7 to 8 members each. Every group was assigned a different type or classification of dance: Hip-hop, Folk Dance, Contemporary or Modern Dance, Cheer Dance, Festival Dance, and Ballroom Dance.
We didn’t really have much time to prepare. Most of us did last-minute practices for our performance, including our group, actually HAHAHAHA. Since I love dancing, they asked me to teach them. I felt pressured because our assigned dance was Contemporary/Modern, and we decided to make it interpretative. Interpretative dance is nice and simple, but it’s not my usual style of dancing. Also, this was only my second time teaching choreography, so the pressure was really on me.
Thankfully, my groupmates were cooperative and ready to help. We managed to finish the whole choreography and practice during the weekend and take note, we only practiced once, just two days before the performance day, which was on a Tuesday. I loved how we all enjoyed practicing that day, even though we practiced for almost 8 hours. Even if we were tired and sweating a lot, we still found time to joke around and chat even while rushing to finish the dance HAHAHA.
Fast forward to performance day. If you’re going to ask me if I was nervous… honestly, not that much. I was probably only 30% nervous. I was even more nervous during my Physics report that same day inside the classroom than during our PE performance in the quadrangle where many people could watch us.
Our outfits were simple. We didn’t spend any money at all. We wore all-black outfits with a white fabric tied to our fingers. For props, we only used two chairs and a small photo album. Three of our members, however, wore different costumes.
Now, let me talk about the performances of each group. The order of performance was random, and the first to perform was the Folk dance group. Their outfits were rented, and they all looked beautiful wearing them, especially since it gave off that “Dalagang Pilipina” vibe. Their choreography was simple, though the footwork looked challenging since it kept repeating. I loved how they maintained their bright smiles and graceful moves. I actually forgot what song they performed, though.
The next group was the Hip-hop group. From the first part of their song, we were already shocked! Shawn, one of our classmates, did b-boy moves (I’m not sure if that’s what it’s called haha). They all did so well. Some of them danced cutely and modestly, while others added more beats and cool moves.
Then it was our group’s turn...Interpretative Dance group. Our song was “MAPA” by SB19 (I hope you’ve heard it it’s available on YouTube and Spotify, and it’s very meaningful🤍). Since there were only seven of us, it was hard to perform an interpretative dance, but we still managed. We portrayed a family: one mother, one father, one son, and four dancers supporting the story.
Honestly, when it was finally our turn, I started feeling nervous. I kept thinking, “What if the music stops? What if I forget some parts of the choreography?” But when we got to the middle of the song, the nervousness disappeared. I enjoyed performing with my groupmates, putting all our emotions into the dance, especially since we were interpreting the song’s message. I even had to stop myself from smiling (which was so hard). When the song ended and I heard our classmates cheering and clapping, I felt relieved. The nervousness and overthinking were gone.
After us, the Festival Dance group. Since most of them are non-Catholics, they performed a non-religious festival dance. Out of all the groups that rented costumes, theirs was the most extravagant! Their festival queen literally wore a festival queen gown, yes, a real gown! Ericka looked stunning in it and even had a makeup artist. Their performance was beautiful, and I loved how they also made DIY props.
Next was the Cheer Dance group performed. Their outfits were the cutest in my opinion. Their theme was red and white, and I really loved their DIY pompoms. Their choice of songs matched the cheer dance vibe perfectly. I also liked the parts where they had to lie on the floor as part of their choreography, such a nice effort!
The last group to perform was the Ballroom Dance group. Out of all the dances, I think theirs was the hardest. I’m not a ballroom dancer, but their movements were fast (both the song and choreography). Still, they all did great and managed to keep up with the fast pace.
After everyone finished performing, we had a group picture with our PE teacher. We all had fun, and it felt so good to finally be done with the performance. All our sweat and effort were worth it.
An appreciation message to my groupmates🫶🏻 I’m so lucky to have you in my group. Thank you for trusting me to teach the choreography even though I had a hard time choosing the right song and memorizing the steps. Thank you also for helping me and giving suggestions while we were creating the choreography. We wouldn’t have been able to finish and perform the dance well without our cooperation and teamwork. My “MAPA” team, I love you all!!🤍🖤
Thank you for reading, everyone! See you in my next blogs!
