Do you close your eyes...
fall asleep immediately, and sleep through the night?
If you do, count yourself among the blessed! Because like me...COUNTLESS people around the world struggle to fall asleep/stay asleep.
For me, insomnia runs in my family. But also, I picked up some very bad sleeping habits in high school. I had about 6-8 hours of homework at night...(I can't complain...I had a GREAT education from the school!) But the heavy workload of schooling responsibilities pushed sleep WAY down in the list of priorities.
When I graduated from the University years later, I could finally have time to sleep! But found I couldn't. LOL
Instead of fighting it, I just learned to live and function on very little sleep.
UNTIL NOW!
My husband turned me onto some herbal supplements that he said helped so much. I wanted to try them and see what they did for me!
As you can see, I chose to get these all in gummy form. I really don't like taking pills, and gummies are not only yummy- but easy and fast to digest!
Ashwaganda, an adaptogen known for balancing your mood and controlling stress.
Magnesium, one of the most underrated minerals, which many people lack efficient supplies in their body. Taking it before bed helps to give you a sense of calm.
Melatonin and L-theanine, this combo helps to regulate your mood, adjust your circadian rhythms, put you to sleep and KEEP you asleep.
So...did it work?
Well, the first few days it felt ODD. haha It was almost as if the supplements were forcing my brain to sleep against its will. My dreams were odd and I woke up several times in the night and just felt very "regulated".
This probably sounds very unpleasant, and I can't argue with you. Hahaha it wasn't pleasant, but you have to remember that I've had poor sleeping patterns for 35 years! Lol One dose of supplements are not going to change that!
Also, it's very important to recognize that these are not like sleeping pills. These are trying to almost..."reset" your body. I am HIGHLY in tune with the way my body feels, so I adjusted the doses over two weeks to find that right balance for me.
Also important to note- just because you don't get an amazing sleep the first night doesn't mean it's not working.
Some supplements take time to "load" in your body. I have a feeling that these are like that! So many people have taken melatonin once and said "it doesn't work for me."
Perhaps not...but I wonder if they took it longer, they might find that it trains your body over time.
Melatonin is naturally created by your own body- so I don't like to become dependent on anything that my body should be creating on its own. I prefer to use outside doses as a sort of "trigger" to remind my body what it's supposed to be doing and more importantly...WHEN! Like... BEDTIME! lol
It's been about two weeks and the change is unbelievable.
At my worst, I used to fall asleep around 2-3 am and wake up around 6 am.
For the past few nights, I've been getting tired around 8, falling asleep between 8:30-9:30, and assuming I would wake up around 1 am. (since that is usually what would happen in the past if I dared to try to sleep early!)
But now?
I'm sleeping about 7-8 hours a night and waking up SO rested. I'm so excited about this and hope it continues!! Sleep is so necessary for ALL body functions and when you don't get enough, you simply aren't at your prime.
This year I have so many goals to achieve! I hope that being fully rested gives me the best chance to reach them!
