I went to the fresh market this week and I´ve had a funny encounter with a donkey. Yes, a funny donkey! But before that , I had to make an errand to get something for one of my neighbor´s two German shepherds. This dog lost his companion dog last week beause of intestinal problem, they had to put him to sleep. Sadly, Micky had been howling day and night. He is now alone and to make him forget being alone, people in the neighborhood would call on him to calm him down. So this week, I opted for my share and I went to the pet shop to get an organic ham bone (real bone) and a dried pig´s ear to make Micky busy. Hurrying up I made my way to the parking lot... I was going to the fresh market.
The fresh market is located beside this hotel... Its new location had been constructed in a huge area and therefore can accomodate the vans of the dealers. The parking lot where I parked the car is an open space lot intended for fresh market visitors and is located vis a vis this hotel on the other side of the street.
I parked the car at the parking lot, facing a property that was fenced. A donkey came rushing into my direction and when I went out of the car, the animal was pushing its nose against the metal fence... kind of "hey buddy, have you got something for me?" I uttered words with him and said I would come back.
I went to the fresh market to get something for my neighbor who is taking care of our mails in our absence. I found what I needed and also bought vegetables and fruits and some clementines for the donkey. When I came back to the parking lot, he saw me and came running towards me. He remembered me so he was ready for the fruit I guessed... I was not sure whether the fruits are good for him, but I assumed that was so because the clementines were sweet and juicy. I only wanted to give 2 clementines which he devoured instantaneously but he kept on pushing his nose on the fence and making funny gestures and sounds and who knows what was in his mind... For a while, he consumed a kilo of clementines. He let me rub his nose, and when I said that´s all, as if he understood, he stepped backwards as if murmuring something, lol! I am sure, he will remember me when I come to visit the market again.
