Apis mellifera
The Apis mellifera or European honey bee, commonly known as domestic bee or honey bee, is the most widely distributed bee species in the world, being native to Europe, Africa and part of Asia, it was later introduced in Oceania and the American continent.
Their diet consists basically of nectar and pollen obtained from flowers. The pollen provides them with the proteins, fats and minerals necessary for their survival, while the nectar provides them with energy.
A few days ago while walking near my home, I noticed that the planter outside a building was covered with creeping daisies, a shrub with tiny, bright yellow flowers that are abundant in the city.
As usual, I got close enough to look for insects, particularly bees, which seem to be very attracted to these flowers when they are in search of food, both for themselves and to satisfy the needs of the rest of the members of their hives.
La Apis mellifera o abeja europea, comúnmente conocida como abeja doméstica o abeja melífera, es la especie de abeja con mayor distribución en el mundo, siendo originaria de Europa, África y parte de Asia, fue introducida posteriormente en Oceanía y el continente americano.
Su alimentación consiste básicamente de néctar y polen que obtienen de las flores. El polen les proporciona las proteínas, grasas y minerales necesarios para su supervivencia, mientras el néctar les provee energía.
Unos días atrás mientras caminaba por las cercanías de mi hogar, observé que la jardinera exterior de un edificio estaba cubierta de margaritas rastreras, un arbusto que posee unas diminutas flores de un intenso color amarillo y que abundan en la ciudad.
Como es usual, me acerqué lo suficiente para buscar insectos, particularmente abejas, que al parecer se sienten muy atraídas por estas flores cuando se encuentran en búsqueda de alimento, tanto para ellas mismas como para satisfacer las necesidades del resto de los integrantes de sus colmenas.
