Old Age
Old age refers to the period that follows maturity, being the last stage of human life, and which is characterized by physical, psychological and social changes that occur with the passage of time.
It is an individual and universal process, influenced by biological, environmental and cultural factors, and is not defined by a specific age, although it is usually associated with older adulthood.
All these changes, both biological and psychological, can be accelerated or delayed according to the characteristics, previous life conditions and genetic factors of each person, but in most cases, these changes are inevitable.
The perception and valuation of old age varies among societies and throughout history, from wisdom and respect for the elderly, to the fragility and social burden of this condition.
I took this pair of photos this morning while walking down an avenue in my city, and they correspond to an elderly street vendor, who had his improvised sales stand located on the sidewalk in front of a well-known drugstore chain.
After buying a cookie from him, I asked for permission to take some pictures of him, and without much thought, he agreed to my request.
As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.
Vejez
La vejez se refiere al período que sigue a la madurez, siendo la última etapa de la vida humana, y la cual se caracteriza por cambios físicos, psicológicos y sociales que ocurren con el paso del tiempo.
Es un proceso individual y universal, influenciado por factores biológicos, ambientales y culturales, y no está definido por una edad específica, aunque usualmente se asocia con la adultez mayor o la tercera edad.
Todos estos cambios, tanto biológicos como psicológicos, pueden verse acelerados o retardados de acuerdo las características, condiciones de vida previas y los factores genéticos de cada persona, pero en la mayoría de los casos, estos cambios son inevitables.
La percepción y valoración de la vejez varía entre las diversas sociedades, y a lo largo de la historia, desde la sabiduría y el respeto a los ancianos, hasta la fragilidad y la carga social que significa esta condición.
Este par de fotos las tomé esta mañana mientras caminaba por una avenida de mi ciudad, y corresponden a un anciano vendedor ambulante, que tenía su improvisado puesto de ventas ubicado en la acera al frente de una reconocida cadena de farmacias.
Luego de comprarle una galleta, le pedí permiso para tomarle algunas fotos, y sin mucho pensarlo, accedió a mi solicitud.
Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
