Camera Rotation & Kinetic Photography
In 2018, I discovered a technique for myself called camera rotation. The camera is mounted on a CRT (Camera Rotation Tool), this device allows me to rotate the camera around the lens axis during the exposure.
I love this technique because there are almost no limits and you can let your creativity run free. When the weather is bad, it is an ideal activity for me to create light art images in a dry, warm studio.
As the camera is mounted on a tripod with the CRT, you can also pan the camera to create other light trails.
In 2018 habe ich eine Technik für mich entdeckt, die sich Kamera Rotation nennt. Hierbei wird die Kamera auf einem CRT (Camera Rotation Tool) montiert, dieses Gerät ermöglicht es mir, die Camera während der Belichtung um die Objektivachse zu rotieren.
Ich liebe diese Technik, da es hier fast keine Grenzen gibt und man seiner Kreativität freien Lauf lassen kann. Bei schlechtem Wetter ist es für mich eine ideale Beschäftigung, um im trockenen, warmen Studio Lichtkunstbilder zu kreieren.
Da die Kamera mit dem CRT auf einem Stativ montiert ist, kann man die Kamera zusätzlich noch schwenken, um noch andere Lichtspuren zu erzeugen.

Camera rotation can of course also be done outside. Lights from buildings, neon signs and much more are great places to start. The light sources are usually fixed and do not move. Ideal for rotating the camera, panning (up, down, left and right) and/or zooming if you're not using a fixed focal length.
If you like to be out in nature, you can also use all kinds of materials that nature provides us with. Leaves, trees, cones, etc.

Kamera Rotation kann man natürlich auch draußen durchführen. Lichter von Gebäuden, Leuchtreklame und vieles mehr sind super geeignet, um einfach mal anzufangen. Die Lichtquellen sind in der Regel fest und bewegen sich nicht. Ideal um die Kamera zu rotieren, schwenken (hoch, runter, links und rechts) und/oder zu zoomen, wenn man nicht gerade eine Festbrennweite nutzt.
Wenn man gerne in der Natur unterwegs ist, kann man auch alle Art von Materialen nutzen, die uns die Natur zur Verfügung stellt. Blätter, Bäume, Zapfen usw.

In this image I combined a freehand light painting (an acrylic rod with a violet colour filter) with the camera rotation technique. The light painting on its own would certainly be very boring and really nothing special. By painting the violet light figure six times and rotating the camera 60° degrees after each time, something completely new is born. To fill the black space in the frame (I'm not a fan of too much black in the image), I then mounted the camera on a second tripod, which was previously aligned with a small bush. The bush was illuminated and then again rotated six times. Each time the camera was moved (in this case by 60° degrees), I capped the lens.
In diesem Bild habe ich mal ein freihand Lightpainting (ein Acrylstab mit violettem Farbfilter) mit der Kamera Rotations Technik kombiniert. Das Lightpainting für sich genommen, wäre sicherlich sehr langweilig und wirklich nichts besonderes. Dadurch dass die violette Lichtfigur sechs mal gemalt wurde und nach jedem Mal die Kamera um 60° Grad weitergedreht wurde, entsteht etwas völlig neues. Um den schwarzen Bereich im Bild zu füllen (ich bin kein Fan von zuviel schwarz im Bild), habe ich die Kamera anschließend auf ein zweites Stativ montiert, welches vorher auf einen kleinen Busch ausgerichtet wurde. Der Busch wurde beleuchtet und dann wiederum sechs mal rotiert. Jedes Mal wenn die Kamera bewegt wurde (hier um 60° Grad), habe ich das Objektiv abgedeckt.

In this image, as in images 1 & 2, I used moving light and partly combined it with fixed light sources. To move light in front of the camera, I use a rotating device. On an old bicycle rim mounted on a tripod, I attach all kinds of light sources (blades, bottles, acrylic rods, LED strips, etc.), which I can then rotate in a circle. Depending on the camera's position and the rotation around the lens axis, I then create a wide variety of light figures. I am always surprised at the different results that can be achieved by making small changes to the light source or camera position.
Bei diesem Bild habe ich wie auch in Bild 1 & 2 bewegtes Licht genutzt und teilweise mit festen Lichtquellen kombiniert. Um Licht vor der Kamera zu bewegen, nutze ich eine Drehvorrichtung. Auf einer alten Fahrradfelge, die auf einem Stativ montiert ist, befestige ich alle Arten von Lichtquellen (Blades, Flaschen, Acrylstäbe, LED-Streifen usw.), die ich dann im Kreis drehen kann. Je nach Kameraausrichtung und die Rotation um die Objektivachse, entstehen dann unterschiedlichste Lichtfiguren. Ich bin immer wieder überrascht, was für unterschiedliche Ergebnisse entstehen, durch kleine Veränderungen an der Lichtquelle oder an der Kameraausrichtung.
The images were taken in several steps, during a longexposure. Nothing is added or removed in post processing.
