I have become somewhat obsessed with documenting the changing seasons and tides of our sleepy village. It started in July of 2020 shortly after we moved her.
I walk and take quick photographs and admittedly don’t spend too much time but rather try to catch the moment in time.
People are not usually the subject of my composition although you may spot them in the distance now and then. It’s more about capturing the changes in our beautiful environment that often are taken for granted.
Capturing these scenes makes them live on beyond the moment, have a life after the sun has set. It allows us to see the flowers after they have withered and Spring has turned to Summer.
In our little cape along the rugged coast no two days are the same. The sun is always on the move and the wind is big influence on the warmth of the day. The cold southerlies give you goosebumps even though the warm sun is shining above.
I think my garden has a schizophrenic response to the changing weather and isn’t quite sure whether to grow or hibernate. I guess us humans are the same - carrying warm clothing along to beach picnics in the Spring weather.
But the seasons will remain, year after year. Moments will change from day to day. I’ve decided to do my best to enjoy those moments and make the most of them.
I hope you enjoyed this little series with me and got a glimpse of our village through my eyes. We are constantly reminded that we are blessed and are so grateful for where we landed here in the little village of Kommetjie.
This may not have been the plan but it’s a pretty special reality.
