When we talk about cleanliness, I can say it is something attached to our traits or character. This is something we are connected to already and can only be erased through constant and consistent practices. To practice cleanliness, one must have a mind and soul that are against dirt and untidiness. This way, you can then have a reason to keep wherever you are clean, no matter the condition.
I remembered some time during my youth service, I served in the barracks, and we had a lodge to reside in. I was given a room to pair with someone. And that was where I stayed in my early months. When I got to the room, the person was tidy and clean, and I appreciated him. It was like two like poles met. When I joined, the apartment remained extremely clean, so that when anyone comes in, they will always have something to say about it.
The cleanliness was just about the house alone, but the way we dress, cook, and do every other thing. Sometimes people call us twins. The funniest part was that I don't like wearing clothes without having them well-ironed. He was also the same way. So in our wardrobe, the clothes are always intact and ironed.
Time changed, and I was asked to change my apartment. This time around, I was sent to another room where they were so untidy. The first aspect that got me so irritated was the bathroom and toilet. Once you open the door, you will have your feet sinking into a pool of water. I was sure their water passage was blocked. I couldn’t use the restroom that day.
For the room, everything was just so scattered, I had my head thinking about where I came from, it was the same apartment and space, but why was the difference so much? To sleep that night, I just had to clear a little space, sweep one side, and manage to sleep till the next day.
Deep within me, I was frustrated with everything. I patiently waited for them to vacate the room, then I turned everything around. I cleared the water passage, and all of their clothes and rags scattered all around were burned, and even the kitchen that was like a refuse dump had a new touch. When I was done with everything, I could feel myself in that space.
So I can say that cleanliness is not about money. It is all about the person. There are times when you get closer to some people, that’s when you know they are just rotating five clothes. But you can never believe it if you were told. This is because they practiced cleanliness. Have their dirty ones washed on time and well-maintained.
Meanwhile, there might be some that have a full wardrobe and still appear untidy. Don't blame them, they just have it as much, but the sense of cleanliness and maintenance for such people is low.
When you have money in addition to your clean personality, then that’s a bonus because you will surely appear extra clean, you can now afford many other things that will aid your clean personality. But as for someone who doesn't, no matter how much the money flows, they will still feel comfort in the untidy environment.
Apart from practicing a clean environment, the impact of cleanliness on our health can not be underrated. Sometimes the cause of some people's illness is just a result of their unclean environment.
Imagine an environment with poor drainage and then breeding mosquitoes. In the end, those mosquitoes will find their way to cause diseases in such people. Many other cases, apart from mosquitoes, bedbugs, cockroaches, centipedes, scorpions, snakes, and many other dangerous animals, prefer to dwell in untidy environments.
