There are times we see advantages to some technological advancements in life and it has some disadvantages too. But it depends on how we take it to be. These things can’t control themselves unless they are operated and controlled by human power so there is still a way they are directly or indirectly dependent on humans as their source of power.
Social media is one of the technological advancements we got to experience in our era. Nowadays we can relate and socialize with others through our devices, we can see, speak, and also hear from people we have met for so long and even with people far away from us. It would also bridge the connection between us and those we are yet to even meet before in our lifetime.
That’s social media, its advantages or disadvantages depend on whichever you want it. I have heard and seen many people who meet their life spouses through relationships on social media and also I have heard and seen many who encountered colossal mistakes and problems in their lives through relationships on social media.
My point of view
Relationships should be firstly encountered on social media but could be grown through social media. What I meant is that you don’t have to expect yourself to meet your partner for the first time on social media but you should know them physically and also spend little time with them before you can then have each other on social media and continue with the relationship so it could get stronger.
I would give an example of two people who took social media as their source of relationships.
The first one was a friend of mine who met a guy on social media, she never met him physically, she has been receiving things from him and she already grew in love with him and with time after years of dating each other online then they decided to meet at a cafeteria. The lady was there before he arrived. She sat somewhere hidden so he wouldn’t sight her easily. When he arrived he then called her to make her aware of his presence, sighting him from afar she immediately followed the next door out of the cafe and told him she wasn’t able to make it. Her outcome was that he was an extremely different person from what he displayed on his social media profile. Since then she blocked her sim and disconnected everything about them together.
The other was about two friends who met on a bus on a long journey, they exchanged conversations and gradually grew to like each other. They got each other’s contact and social media accounts. They followed each other and showcased their relationship openly to others online. Social media was an Avenue to connect both of them via voice and video calls when they were apart from each other’s sight, then they finally got to marry each other in the end.
Social media has its disadvantages but the advantages should be more depending on how you want it.
