Tax, to my little understanding, is the revenue generated by the government through the citizens or anyone in the country to make the country a better place to live in. The better place is the fact that we have so many social amenities the government has to create just to make life easier for the dwellers.
Most foreigners who are in the country also follow suit by paying their taxes as far as they have businesses and are buying one item or the other.
Ordinarily, taxes are. Used to redirect wealth from the rich to the poor. This is due to social welfare programs organized by the government just to cater to the poor and the less privileged.
In another way, for the economy of a country to grow extremely, taxes are the fuel.
Governments of other countries do have a way of taking the tax out of the dwellers of their countries, being citizens or foreigners. In Nigeria, I am well sure that the taxes being paid are not used in the quarters they were supposed to use. Instead, they mandate some set of people (bodies) who are responsible for collecting the taxes. These people may use that medium to emboss their lives and pockets, leaving the government behind. The major purpose of this tax would, therefore, be cut short.
Nigerians, to some extent, are not fateful when it comes to the payment of tax. They always run away from paying taxes just because of the kind of government we have. The government, on the other hand, is not helping issues; instead, it is the one sipping money into their respective pockets.
Back to the question
Both the rich and the poor should be paying the same amount of tax as we are all humans. The fact remains that taxes are levied according to the volume of items you have. Let's say worker A is being paid $20,000 and the tax rate is 2%. Worker B should be able to pay the same percentage if he or she receives a pay more than worker A. Let's say B received a pay of $100,000; he or she should be able to pay the same 2%. Although his payment would be more than worker A just because of the huge amount he receives.
So, paying taxes should be equal irrespective of the class but should come with a percentage, which I guess should be according to the pay you receive.
The average living people are somehow guilty of their payments of taxes. Most especially those having their handiwork. Most of them do not pay taxes just because they are not working for anyone. But then, the rich pay taxes no matter the situation, since they have companies and also pay workers who work under them.
In a nutshell, everyone, both the rich and the poor, pays taxes since they can buy something or the other in the market. This is what we refer to as value-added taxes.
I'm pretty sure of my points because of the tax evidence (alert) always sent to my husband through his Gmail. He pays taxes despite the little money he always receives as a salary. All his colleagues in his workplace pay taxes, which are calculated according to the amount they receive (percentage).
To cut it short, it would be best if taxes were allocated equally to both the rich and the poor. This would make things go smoothly. However, most people will never agree with this fact.
So, everyone, the working class, should endeavor to pay taxes, as this is important.
