Civilization of cause has its own bad side and also the good side of it. Most countries have been swept by civilization but only a few pay attention to it's bad side. With what is happening in this twenty first century, I don't even know if to choose the primitive life that our fathers had before now and forget about civilization. Because of civilization, we have forgotten ourselves and carried both the good and the bad effect.
What is civilization all about? According to oxford dictionary, civilization is an organized culture encompassing many communities, often on the scale of a nation or a people; a stage or system of social, political or technical development. From this definition, we can say that a culture. Others culture coming in to take over the culture of another people. Yes, our fathers were primitive because of their way of life. Their culture also primitive. But I want to say that in that their primitive way of life, they had what they do and what they don't do. They so much believe in decency in everything that they do. This craziness that we see around today was not there. Let do a little analysis:
Our fathers were primitive, but they believe that one should not steal.
On the other hand, we said that we are civilized, but we have thieves everywhere. Are we talking about cyber crime? Or which one. What about scammers? We have them in their levels.
Secondly, our fathers were primitive, yet when they want to get married, they follow protocol. The parents of the lady must give their consent before anything is done. Yet they had peaceful marriages. Women were ready to do anything to keep their marriages. Men could also give up anything to safeguard their marriages. The opposite is what we have today. Ladies of today move to a man's house just at the hearing of I love you that is not from the heart. Men also cheat their spouse and lie about it. When we talk about marriage. Our fathers who were primitive had better marriages than we in a civilized world. We have more cases of divorce than our fathers who were not education.
Thirdly, our parents were not educated, but they were inculcated with good morals. All the norms of the society was been observed by them even in their illiterate way of life. What about our young men and women of today. They can just walk pass you without greetings. All our good morals have died because of civilization. No more respect for elders. Children don't even care how their parents feel when they do something bad. They just go ahead and do it. All you will hear them say is that it is their lives and they should be allowed to live it the way they want.
This is just to mention but a few.
Of course I can't shy away from all the good things that civilization has brought to us. It has cleaned us up and helped us intellectually. At least we can read and write. Civilization also helped us to know how to wear good clothes. Our parents were at a time moving naked. But when civilization came it, the story changed. Civilization also brought about the white collar job that we have today. Before now it was just farming and it was also done manually. But today, even if a man want to farm there are lots of equipments that is available because of civilization that can aid one in farming faster and bigger. It has changed the way things were done in the olden days. All thanks to civilization. But my problem is that it also came with it's own problem. We can also select what is good from the civilization and throw away what is bad. My thoughts though!
