Our whole life is like a class room where we keep on learning lessons one after the other. Our experiences and interactions make us who we are and what we are going to be in the future. Sometimes life gives us lessons in an easier way. At other times, the lessons are taught to us hard way. No matter hard or easy, the lessons we take have an immense impact on us. At times it also happen that we keep on facing the similar circumstances over and over again without learning the lessons they give to us. It is important to evaluate what we have gone through so far and what insights we should have gathered from it.
While entering the new year we have resolutions and goals, it is also crucial to look back and see what lessons the current year has left for us; so that we embrace the challenges of coming time with more maturity and wisdom.
There are many lessons that 2022 has taught me. I have learnt to value myself more. Also, to value life more. Here are some of the lessons:
Back in 2016 and now in 2022, I have come across sudden death of many people. When the news of death would reach, it was difficult to accept the news. The feeling was like how this person (healthy and fit) can leave this world all of sudden. It demonstrates how unpredictable life is. You never know which day and moment would be your last. The time we have got as a living in this world is a blessing. We should utilize it to bring happiness and peace around us. Also, we should value people who are existing in our lives today. It is of no use to regret when they are gone. Living in the present is the best way to live.
I spent several past years of my life in the fear of future. I was afraid of losing what I had in my hands at that time. The fear accompanied the question what I would do if this very thing gets out of my access. For instance, I was doing a freelancing job at a very low pay. I was afraid of losing it as I didn’t know what other way of earning I would have.
The time unfolded to me that letting go of one thing is the method of bringing the other thing in life. I could enter the world of blogging only because I decided to leave freelancing. Fearing about future does nothing but stealing the happiness and satisfaction of today. Yes, we should have goals and plans but not fears. I have learnt that the future has its own opportunities. It may come up with changes that seem impossible as of today. Instead of fear, have hopes for tomorrow. The hopes not only give the strength to work with our full potential but also let us appreciate today’s blessings.
There are some lessons that I have learned about relationships. In any relationship we have certain expectations. When these expectations are not met we feel hurt. Something that I understood is that relationships work better when we are more expressive. We should tell our partner what we want. If something hurts we should let them know but in a respectful manner.
At various points in relationships, the problems are caused by merely our own negative evaluation of the happenings. When we are hurt negative emotions generate negative thoughts. Negative thoughts worsen the situation. If any thing like that happens, take a pause and try to assess circumstances unbiasedly. Instead of keeping your feelings to you, discuss them with your partner. It helps developing mutual understanding.
One last lesson I want to share today is that the people who surround us have a lot to do with what we become. Try to be surrounded with constructive and positive minded people. They would help you finding and generating more positivity around you along with coping the negativity.
These were a few of the lessons I learnt in 2022. What lessons did you learn?
