Victor Osimhen is a well-known footballer from Nigeria. He currently plays for SSC Napoli in the Italian Serie A, although he has recently been linked with a potential loan to Galatasaray.
In November 2021, Osimhen suffered a serious fracture during a match between his club, Napoli, and Inter Milan. Though I really, really love Osimhen’s heading style; however, he collided with Milan Škriniar, a defender of Inter Milan. He suffered multiple fractures which affected the bones of the viscerocranium.
Previously, I explore the fascinating anatomy of the human skull using 3D visualization tools.
Special thanks to Anatomy 3D Atlas for making this possible!
I discussed the various anatomical views of the skull—but that’s not all.
I also described the facial bones and the cranial bones, which are completely different structures. In anatomical terms, these are best referred to as the viscerocranium and the neurocranium.
* Cranium means skull.
* Neuro always refers to the brain.
* The viscerocranium describes the facial part of the skull,
* While the neurocranium refers to the cranial portion that houses the brain.
Furthermore, I explained how the facial skeleton is made up of 14 bones, while the cranial portion consists of 8 bones.

Now, back to Victor Osimhen—his cheekbone, also called the zygomatic bone, and the orbital plate of the maxilla were affected. These structures house the eye and some delicate areas of the brain. Any further intrusion might perturb the normal physiological functioning of our favorite Victor Osimhen.

So, a surgery was done, and screws were used to hold the fractured parts in place to allow for proper healing. You can find the affected zygomatic bone in the image below.
It is connected to the maxilla as well as the temporal bone.
Conclusively, we should not only focus on the shattered bones alone. Okay!
What about the blood vessels and nerves around this region? They can be affected too...However, I thank God that he turned out to be okay after all he had been through.
Thanks for reading.
