It's a good day and as funny as it sounds, I was just thinking about all these scenarios in one.
I have been a very free person and I must also say that I'm a kind person. I can't see someone in need and not look for a way to find a solution to that need. Infact, before now, I used to be a people pleaser. I just want everyone around me to be happy and comfortable.
I have also gotten that treatment from people as well a number of times and I'm usually very grateful.
I was in this big mess about three years ago. I have told part of this story here some time ago when I was talking about the dilemma of getting an apartment as a lady.
So, when I was posted to this part of the state to do my job, even though I didn't want it, I was a bit relieved because all my husband's family members live here and I felt it's just like coming home.
I had to resume the next Monday at my new place and I needed a place to stay before I would look for my own apartment. I thought I would be with my husband's aunt but they later said I should be with his cousin for a few weeks just to find a comfortable accomodation for the kids and I. So, since it's a new term, I immediately enrolled them in the school close to my place of work so that it would be easy for me to drop them off and pick them in the afternoon.
I was with my husband's cousin and she acted very nice to us when we first moved in with her. I was not comfortable because it's not my house and I put all effort to get my own place but nothing is working. It's either the place is too expensive or too far to my work place. I became exhausted. I did all I could by buying foodstuff and provisions in the house, keeping the house clean at all times and always pleading with her to give us some more time.
I always go back home every weekend to also give her privacy in her house. After five weeks, I got a place but they needed to do some finishing touches in the house which I paid for. While at home for the weekend, she called me to tell me that her boyfriend was coming home so I can't stay at her place when I get back on Monday. I begged her that I just needed till Wednesday when the carpenter said that the new place would be ready but she refused.
I had to start packing my few things from her house that Monday evening after work. I didn't even have enough money for an hotel I just started crying. I called everyone I had been close to since I got to that place but the situation of each was also peculiar. So, I told my colleague at work the situation I was in so she helped me called another colleague of ours. The lady she called came to my rescue within few minutes. She called me and demanded for my location, she came with her husband to pick me.
Someone that I just say hello to whenever we meet at work became my savior. When we got to her house, she encouraged me and told me not to feel bad giving me a lot of instances. She gave us food and made sure we were comfortable. We were with her for three days until my apartment was fixed and they were the ones that went to drop us at the new place. I was so grateful to her. Her kindness was out of this world.
This scenario taught me a lot of lessons. Sometimes, the people you think will stand by you and look out for you may be the ones pulling you down while the ones you don't expect may be the ones that will stand by you.
