I never did it, when I see people who are doing it, I always pity them. I understand that they earn a lot of money from it but I can never do it, even if they make millions from it.
When I was a fresh graduate, one of my godmother without asking me secured a job for me in the bank, thinking I would appreciate it. When she told me about it and who I should see the next week, I quickly told her politely that I can't work in a bank. My reasons may not be cogent but I think I've grown to have a phobia for it.
My friend who studied chemistry in the university, got a job in the bank immediately after we served. They only did some courses for few months and they were given their appointment letters with a car but the car was given on loan. They would pay back within a year. They still got up to two hundred thousand as take home for the month apart from the car loan they were paying. This shows that the salary was indeed lucrative.
I was happy for my friend but I couldn't envy her because I hated that sedentary lifestyle, the fact that you have to sit on a spot for hours with your eyes on the screen working on numbers. That is my worst aspect of learning. I hated the fact that you could not get home when other people get home because your account has to be balanced before you leave, especially those that live in Lagos. With the traffic and all, some get home by eleven pm 🕚 everyday.
When you are in the marketing department, you have to look for costumers no matter what it takes or the cost because you have to meet your target for the month or the quarter. If you don't meet up with this, your salary may be on the line.
I didn't like the fact that I may not have time for my family. What happens to the children when the parents are not there from Monday till Saturday. What can a parent do with their child only once in a week except on public holidays? What type of adult will the child grow up to become?

The fact that you are the first suspect when the money is not complete is another turn off for me. Some bankers would be arrested for weeks, months, pending the time the investigation will last. I didn't like all that at all.
Back to my friend that got the bank job after youth service, she got married to another banker but I think they reached an agreement. Immediately they started having kids, she resigned and she is back to the teaching profession she felt was not lucrative. As fate would have it, she got a well paying teaching job in her community. she is doing well with her kids now.
I will never take up a bank job no matter the amount involved.
This is my response to Hive learners community weekly featured contents on the topic: that one job
