It is another Newbies Initiative task and it is always interesting and knowledgeable.
Well, we had our meeting on Sunday 15th October, 2023. Where @depressedfuckup taught us a lot about hive keys and security. He was able to impact new things to us which is indeed very helpful. @starstrings01 also added a few things as he concluded the meeting.
Down to week 3 task. A few questions are being thrown at us to test our knowledge about what we were taught during the meeting.

QUESTION 1
If your partner for the week from Newbie’s hive mistakenly drops their active key in the discord channel, highlight the various steps you’ll indulge in to keep such account assets safe from potential theft.
First, if this happens, I would message my partner and ask her to go over to the discord channel to delete her active key immediately and try to calmly tell her there is no cause for panic. I’ll also let her know that she needs to be very careful next time.
Afterward, I will ask her how long she must have dropped it, and notwithstanding the time frame, I will ask her to head to her account to see if there are any transactions, if there is none. Then tell her to proceed to generate a new active key.
1.This is not a tasking process as one can generate a new active key by logging into his/her hive account and heading straight to your profile. Click on the 3 dots.
2. Then click on “keys and permission”.
3. After that click on change password, in order to change a get a new password.
4. Then input your Private Owner key
which is required, and with that, you will generate a new active key.
QUESTION 2
What advice would you give to your friend in regards to safekeeping his/her keys?
Hive keys are extremely important as each of them has a useful function, as a result, one needs to keep them safe to avoid losing them or exposing them to hackers.
I think the best advice I would give to anyone concerning keeping his/her keys safe is to write them down and keep them properly with your documents.
Also, you could keep them safe, by saving them to your Gmail or iCloud. I would also prefer saving them to your notes for IOS users and locking them with your Face ID.
QUESTION 3
Assuming your partner does not understand the use of each of these keys, how do you explain this to him/her in the simplest way?
There a five (5) different keys you are given when you open a new Hive account. Those keys include the Posting Key, Memo Key, Private Owner Key, Private Active Key, and Master Key, each with its distinct use.
-Posting Key: This is a key that is used to post content, make comments, reblog posts, and upvote.
-Private Active Key: This is a key that is used mainly for financial transactions such as wallet-related activities, powering up and powering down, and transfers of various Hive tokens.
-Memo Key: This is the least popular key and it is used for sending encrypted messages. Encrypted messages are messages you do not want a third party to read.
-Private Owner Key: This key is used in a situation where your account is hacked and you need to reset it or you need to generate a new key.
-Master Key: This is used to generate the pdf for a new set of keys when you can’t remember where your keys are.
In conclusion, I think it’s best if we are extremely careful with our hive keys. A big thanks to all the coordinators of Newbies initiative.
