When my on-boarder first opened my hive account, she sent me a file and asked I do not ever delete it not even by mistake.
During her earlier years on hive, she had made that mistake and she lost her first account with all the progress in it.
The thing is, the phone she was blogging with got stolen and upon getting another one, she tried migrating the old account but it kept asking for her keys.
At first She was confused and went to one of the discord servers to make inquiries. That was how they explained it to her and it became clear that her ignorance has caused her a lot.
She did gather herself then proceeded to opening an another account to start all over from scratch.
Hence, she asked me to guide the keys with my life and I have since been doing that.
Again, everywhere choke and I missed the last tutorial class but I was able to read the materials shared on the newbie discord server.
So first question we are attempting is;
Highlight the steps involved in changing the trustee accounts (recovery accounts) to your hive account.
First let us do a brief definition of term.
A Trustee or recovery account is a linked account which comes in handy par adventure you loose your hive account to hackers.
In this situation, like the name insinuate, the recovery account will be used to recover the lost account and also like the other name Trustee implies, the account should be handled by someone you trust as after generating a new public owner key, you would be sending it to your Trustee, to use and recover your account with.
Now I bet you might be wondering if it’s possible to swap the Trustee account to an Hive account.
Yes my love it is.
To do that, just log into your hive account via the peakD frontend and kindly check the steps below via the arrows in the screenshot.
Congratulations, you have reached your final destination lol... input your info and click confirm.
You are done
Question 2
If you invited someone to the Hive blockchain and had to give them a proper explanation of the function of each key, write out what your explanation will look like for each key.
Now let's talk about the keys as earlier mentioned in my onboarder's case.
Once an account is opened on hive via any frontend, the user is given 5 keys. These keys should be your most valuable asset else you'd loose all what you have worked hard to build on Hive.
Now guys, let us get accustomed to the keys.
Active Key: This key is used for financial operations on hive. example of these operations include; HBD conversion, Hive power up & down, token transfer HBD and other token conversion etc.
Posting Key: This is the engagement key and like the name implies, it is used for posting and anything concerning post like editing and commenting. It is also used to follow any account that catches your fancy, used for reblogging, up voting and down voting.
Owner key: This is one very vital key and it is used for account recovery process or to change other keys. In the situation of hacking, the owner key comes to play for the account recovery process. More so, it is this key you make available to your trustee to help recover your account.
Master Key: This key is like the one size fits all phrase and it's used to generate other lost keys and also to recover hacked account.
Memo Key: For that Whatsapp vibe or feel Memo Key is your go to. It has a double function which are, for encrypting and decrypting private messages sent through the blockchain as well as token transfers.
Peradventure, your account Active Key got exposed to the general public. What are the measures you'll take to safeguard your assets and account going forward?
The moment I discover my keys have been compromised and privacy breeched, If I can still access my account, I will use the existing owner key to swiftly generate new set of keys. Otherwise, I'd contact my trustee immediately providing the owner key for an account recovery process.
