We all agree that the
technological advancement in the world today has both harm and good. Technology has made the world seems easier and at the same time has posed as a problem to some who think sooner humans will be less relevant.
Most of the people opposing this technological advancement are the old folks, they really find it hard to seen good in it. The experiences of their time has shaped their mindset and what they could see from technology is only threats to humanity. So for you to be able to make of this old people to see the good of technology, you must first have to hack their mindset.
When it comes to smartphones, most folks especially in Africa here are yet to accept the versatility of it and how it can help solve lots of problem from it. Most of them only appreciate the fact that you can use it to communicate to people in any part of the word, after that other features of it is harmful.
I remember when me and my grandma use to argue a lot because she is always angry with me when I'm on my phone, to her it was completely waste of time irrespective of what I'm doing on it. You just have to avoid her when pressing your phone because it is just trouble, to her if you are not making important calls why should you be on your phone.
The change of mindset
Like I said earlier the only way to make this old folks believe the importance and accept the wild use of it is to work on their mindset. You have to be able to successfully hack into their mind and change their settings for good that is it.
Knowing this I had to use some important trick( if it fits in) to change the mindset of my grandma gradually. First of all I gaver her an instance of her money can be transferred through this smartphone easily to anybody in the world.
At first she thought there was a place you put in money and withdraw it just like the ATM on a smartphone, but I still had to convince her that know there are some things you have to do for you to get the money transferred to others. For her to accept it, I had to give her a condition that the only way I would be sending her money from now henceforth is through this smartphone and if she doesn't know how to operate it the money will have to be stucked there because I would not be chanced to visit her always or go to the bank to withdraw money for her, and because she loved money and would never want anything to happen to the money her lovely grandson is sending to her, she started developing the interest to learn it.
I also told her we could be seeing the face of each other even from a distance and she asked how, and I told her it was still from the features of this smartphone you are rejecting and she even became more happier to learn how to operate the smartphone, because with her knowledge of that she can be able to see her lovely grandson from any part of the world. That was I was able to make my grandma interested in knowing more and be able to operate a smartphone, and it was easy for me to teach her.
Friends, change of mindset is one of the important key factor to deal with old folks before teaching them how to operate a smartphone.
