Joining a community late can make it much harder to stick around. I’ve only been here for a week, and there are times when I feel like I’m wasting my time. You post something and get no upvotes or comments, which can really hurt your motivation. In moments like these, you need to take a step back and ask yourself why you’re spending your time here or doing this. This doesn’t just apply to Hive but to anything new you’re starting. My kid is facing the same challenge with piano right now.
I believe the best way to find your footing initially is to focus on something you’re interested in and passionate about. Write, socialize, and keep putting effort into those communities. The more you contribute, produce great content, and engage with others, the more engagement you’ll receive in return. If you hop around, write one post in a place, and never revisit it, you’re less likely to get any engagement. Let’s face it—nobody knows who you are.
Bluntly speaking, if your only goal here is to make a ton of money, the odds are against you, and you probably won’t stick around for long. That’s not to say I don’t want to make some money, but if it were my sole focus, I could find faster ways to do it elsewhere. In the long term, if I carve out a niche here, that might change, but it won’t happen quickly.
Be yourself, and let your unique voice shine through your posts. Share your knowledge and passion. Rehashing what others have written, copying, and putting in little effort will yield little return. In the beginning, even if you’re working hard, you might not get a lot of attention. But it’ll pay off, just like in most other aspects of your life.
This was just a post that came to mind because I saw that user retention seems pretty low after one month and I think people give up quickly due to no or little rewards. But many of those giving up wearn’t going to last long anyways because there motivation didn’t align with likely outcomes and they were hoping for something much easier. Making money fast, writing or put 2 minutes into a post and getting rewarded for and for most of us. This community doesn’t work like that.
