Hello everyone, how are you all doing on this beautiful day? Hope the weekend is going fine for you so far? Well, I for one can very much say that it is going great for me and I look forward to all the possibilities the weekend could bring.
As the month barrels to a close, I would like to talk about another day that is being celebrated today. It is a day to kick back and relax, a day to bring out that bottle we have been hoarding and saving for that special day because today is a special day indeed. And it is on this day that we get to celebrate the Open That Bottle Night.
As the name implies, it is meant to be observed at night, so that even those who went to work can take part. Thankfully, tomorrow is Sunday and so many of us would not have to report at work, so you can drink as much as you feel you can handle.
Wines can mean a lot of things, for some of us it can be the memories they hold. Seeing as wines do not expire, they can last for a very long time. You will see some people keeping a bottle untouched for decades because they believe that such a drink should only be opened when there is something special going on.
And the essence of today’s observance is to remind us that every day is special, you do not have to be celebrating something before you have to open up that bottle.
This day was created by two journalists of the Tastings Columnists at The Wall Street Journal. They were Dorothy J. Gaither and her husband John Brecher. Yeah, they were a husband and wife team…
They created this event to encourage people to open up the bottles on their shelves and in their cupboards, reconnect with friends and loved ones over an open bottle, and go down memory lane with each other even as you create new ones.
All that is required is just to open up the wine and share it with the special people in your life, and then you can all talk about anything that would make you relax.
This day was inaugurated in the year 2000, and since then it has become a global sensation, and it is being celebrated on the last Saturday of every February. For obvious reasons.
On a norm, wines are made to be shared and not consumed alone. Feel free to call your friends and loved ones, use it as an excuse just to hang out and make new memories.
Of course, this day is not meant to be celebrated by everyone. It is definitely those that are yet to be of legal age. Also, it is not for those who have sworn off it or those whose religion or culture has forbidden it. You can always open up a bottle of soft drink, or water.
