Nothing is perfect, that is why things can only get better. As more and more people make use of it, they discover features that should either be added or removed to make it better. That is the reason after so many years, Facebook and Twitter (formerly known as X) are still very much mainstream. It’s still the same reason 2go went obsolete many years ago.
Whether you like it or not, whatever it is your product is, you need to have upgrades that go with the times. This is why every year phone and car brands keep dropping new models even though there’s no major difference between the new one and the old one. Just the name. Upgrades make things more fancy and more enjoyable, especially when they’re upgrades that the users really want.
Hive is no different. Ever since I joined the blockchain, I’ve witnessed a bunch of upgrades and it’s been a thing of joy to watch. I remember when I first started, we didn’t really have the summary option where you could summarize your post in a few words, like a synopsis. It came on later. Now, on Peakd, we have upgrades that can summarize posts, read posts in whatever voice you pick, and a bunch of other things. On Ecency, we now have the waves, and then there is the option of changing your currency to your local currency so you don’t always have to convert.
Across all frontends, there have been massive upgrades over the years, and knowing just how technology evolves, I know there is so much more to come. People are working day and night to make the process of blogging as enjoyable and fun as they can be because the more fun people have in this space, the more reason they’ll have to spend on the platform.
So now, for me, what upgrades would I love to see on Hive?
I’d love to see more videos on Hive. Although 3Speak is doing a marvelous job already, I’m thinking of more of a Facebook-type thingy where you can watch one video and when you’re done, move on to the next one easily. Each video will have the comments and upvote button, and also space for captions.
Right now, each video on the blockchain is attached only to the post. It can be that with a single hashtag, you’ll taken to a plethora of videos that are related to that particular hashtag. Just like how we have the #creative-Sunday here in the community and so many members have made countless videos of it since its inception. With the simple dropping of the tag, one should easily have access to every video ever made for the tag and not just the posts.
Also, if they want to watch the videos without reading the posts, they should be able to do it seamlessly. Simply scrolling from one to the other. And to make it stick, it could be incentivized. Maybe a token will be created and shared as more and more people watch your videos.
But then, I have to mention… I know that with more videos, it will be harder to fight issues like plagiarism and AI-generated content (this is for things that’ll be said in the video or what the video will be about). I believe a transcript could help solve this. Every video will be required to submit a transcript, which can then be used for plagiarism or AI checks.
I’m certain that if something like this comes to life, then measures will be put in place to ensure that abuse will be at the barest minimum. As I said, attaching a token to it would be a great idea, but any small misdemeanor, failing to upload the transcript, or improper sourcing of things used in the video could lead to you missing out on the token.
This is just my idea. I’ve watched many videos on the blockchain, and many times I enjoy what I see so I want to go to the next video of the author. But I have to leave the post, search for the next one with a video, and then go to that post.
There might be problems concerning this idea that I’ve not considered, or other benefits such an upgrade might pose. I would very much love to know. Still, I’m certain that those in charge of videos on the blockchain know what they’re doing and they’re working day and night to make sure they give us nothing but the very best!
For that, we have to be appreciative.
